On August 24, 2024, the seasoned Indian cricket player Shikhar Dhawan declared his retirement from all domestic and international competitions. In a tearful social media video, Dhawan thanked everyone for his 14-year international career and said that representing India was a dream come true.
Dhawan achieved a great deal during his career. He scored more than 10,000 runs in all three forms throughout his 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20Is. He was the first Indian player to score 1,000 runs in an ICC ODI competition. He was well-known for his reliable play, particularly in these events.
During an ODI series against Bangladesh in December 2022, he made his final appearance for India. He remained involved in the IPL after playing cricket for other countries, heading Punjab Kings in the 2024 campaign.
Dhawan said in his retirement speech that although he is content with his choice, he is grateful for the experiences and encouragement he had over his career.
