Shubman Gill Claims Top Spot in ICC ODI Rankings Ahead of Champions Trophy

With just days to go before the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, India’s Shubman Gill has surged to the No.1 position in the ICC ODI batting rankings, overtaking Pakistan captain Babar Azam. Gill’s brilliant century (112 off 102) in the third ODI against England in Ahmedabad saw him leap ahead, accumulating 796 ranking points to reclaim the top spot he first held during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

India’s dominance in ODI batting continues, with Rohit Sharma (3rd), Virat Kohli (6th), and Shreyas Iyer (9th) all featuring in the top 10 rankings, making them one of the most formidable batting line-ups in the tournament.

Pakistan’s Rizwan and Salman Agha Climb the Rankings

While Babar slipped to second place, Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan has made significant strides, jumping six places to 15th following his match-winning 122 against South Africa* and 46 in the final against New Zealand in the Tri-Nation Series.

Meanwhile, Salman Agha, who was named Player of the Series, skyrocketed 24 places to 48th after standout knocks of 134 against SA and 45 against NZ, strengthening Pakistan’s middle order ahead of their CT25 opener vs. NZ on February 19.

South Africa & New Zealand Stars on the Rise

Several SA and NZ players have gained in the latest rankings:

  • Heinrich Klaasen (up to 4th), Aiden Markram (25th), and Temba Bavuma (30th) continue SA’s batting dominance.
  • Daryl Mitchell (5th), Devon Conway (35th), Glenn Phillips (41st), and Tom Latham (42nd) solidify NZ’s batting strength.

Mahesh Theekshana Becomes No.1 ODI Bowler

The bowling rankings saw a major shift as SL spinner Mahesh Theekshana dethroned Rashid Khan to become the top-ranked ODI bowler. SA’s Keshav Maharaj returned in 6th place, while Mitchell Santner (7th) and Adil Rashid (22nd) also made gains.

PAK pacer Naseem Shah climbed three places to 45th, adding depth to their bowling attack for the Champions Trophy.

With ICC CT25 set to begin, these rankings highlight the form of key players who could define the tournament.
