The upcoming Test series between Bangladesh and South Africa is confirmed to proceed as scheduled, beginning on October 21, 2024. This two-match Test series will take place in Bangladesh, with the first match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka from October 21-25, and the second match at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram from October 29 to November 2. This tour comes after Cricket South Africa's security assessment in Bangladesh, which gave the green light for the Proteas to proceed with their visit.
South Africa's Test squad has been announced by head coach Shukri Conrad, featuring a blend of experience and youth. The team is captained by Temba Bavuma, with key players such as Kagiso Rabada spearheading the pace attack. Notably, Senuran Muthusamy has been recalled to the squad after more than a year, and Matthew Breetzke is the only uncapped player. The squad also emphasizes spin, with three frontline spinners—Keshav Maharaj, Dane Piedt, and Muthusamy—given the conditions expected in Bangladesh.
The Proteas squad will have a preparation camp in Pretoria before departing for Bangladesh on October 15, highlighting the importance of readiness for the challenging conditions in Bangladesh, where the home side has been formidable in recent years. The series will be crucial for both teams as they continue to build and prepare for future Test campaigns.
