Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium, Lucknow 19 May 2025:
Sunrisers Hyderabad made a massive statement in the playoff race with a dominant six-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants in Match 61 of the Indian Premier League 2025. Chasing a target of 206, SRH’s batting unit, led by the fearless Abhishek Sharma, displayed ruthless intent to seal the game with 10 balls to spare.
It was Abhishek who laid the platform early, smashing a blistering 59 off just 20 deliveries, packed with 6 fours and 5 sixes. His assault in the powerplay left the Lucknow bowlers stunned, as Sunrisers raced to nearly 100 inside 8 overs. Though he was dismissed in the eighth over, the momentum was firmly with the visitors.
From there, Ishan Kishan (35 off 28) and Heinrich Klaasen (47 off 28) controlled the innings with calm aggression. Klaasen, in particular, punished anything short or wide, maintaining a healthy strike rate and ensuring the required run rate stayed under control. Despite a late blow when Klaasen fell with 11 runs still needed, Aniket Verma and Nitish Reddy finished the chase without drama.
Earlier, Lucknow Super Giants posted 205/7, thanks to solid contributions from Mitchell Marsh (65 off 39) and Aiden Markram (61 off 38). Both batters found the boundary with regularity, while Nicholas Pooran’s cameo of 45 (26) propelled the hosts to a strong total. But SRH’s bowlers tightened things up at the death, taking four wickets in the final over, including two run-outs that halted LSG’s final flourish.
Bowling for SRH, Eshan Malinga was impressive with 2/28, including the crucial wicket of Rishabh Pant. Harshal Patel and Harsh Dubey kept things under check in the latter half of the innings.
Despite a decent total, LSG’s bowling attack failed to match the aggression of SRH’s batting. None of their bowlers could contain Abhishek Sharma early on, and by the time the powerplay ended, the contest was slipping out of their grasp.
This win further strengthens Sunrisers Hyderabad’s playoff push, while Lucknow Super Giants will now need to regroup quickly as the tournament nears its climax.
