Spinner Tabraiz Shamsi of Proteas Men has elected to opt out of his national contract, effective immediately, according to a joint announcement made today by Cricket South Africa (CSA) and Proteas Men.
The move will offer Shamsi, who has played 51 One-Day Internationals and 70 T20 Internationals, additional flexibility to participate in various leagues throughout the world while preserving his availability to represent South Africa across all white-ball forms.
The CSA respects his choice and has faith in his ability to continue his commitment to South African cricket. The national organization also anticipates his future contributions to the Momentum Multiply Titans and Proteas.
"I have made the decision to opt out of my central contract in order to have more flexibility during the domestic season. This will enable me to take advantage of all the opportunities that present themselves and give my family the best care possible," Shamsi said.
"I will always be available to play for my nation whenever I am needed, and this will in no way affect my ability or drive to play for the Proteas. Playing for my country will always be more important to me than any franchise league, and it has always been my desire to bring the World Cup to South Africa.
"My decision has the full support of the Titans, and I will be a member of the team whenever I can."
"I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Jacques Faul, Rob Walter, and Enoch Nkwe for their guidance, encouragement, and open communication throughout this process."
"Shamo is a vital member of our white-ball squads, and while we respect his decision, we are happy that he remains committed to representing South Africa," said CSA Director of Cricket Nkwe.
"His candor and openness about the situation are greatly appreciated; these qualities are essential and what we expect from our players."
