UPW’s Grace Harris Shines with Hat-trick in Win Over DC

The M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru witnessed a thrilling showdown as UP Warriorz (UPW) dominated Delhi Capitals (DC) with a spectacular 33-run victory in the WPL 2025. Grace Harris, Chinelle Henry, and Kranti Goud delivered match-winning performances, making it an unforgettable night for UPW fans.

DC struggled against UPW’s aggressive approach, especially with Chinelle Henry’s breathtaking batting display. Stepping in for the injured Alyssa Healy, the Jamaican all-rounder smashed the joint-fastest fifty in WPL history, reaching her milestone in just 18 balls. Her clean striking and effortless swing turned the game in UPW’s favor, giving them a formidable total to defend.

Speaking after the game, Grace Harris was full of praise for her teammate. “Chinelle’s brilliant batting was outstanding to watch. She made it look easy on a tricky wicket, which was crucial for us to get a winning score. She’s a fantastic striker of the ball and has been a game-changer for us since joining the squad,” Harris said.

While Henry’s explosive batting set the stage, young pacer Kranti Goud and Australian all-rounder Harris stole the show with the ball. Kranti delivered a dream spell, dismantling DC’s strong batting lineup. The young quick dismissed key players like Shafali Verma, Meg Lanning, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Jess Jonassen, proving her mettle against some of the biggest names in women’s cricket. Harris, too, showcased her bowling prowess, bagging four wickets, including a stunning hat-trick in the final over.

Her hat-trick marked just the third in WPL history and the second for UPW, following Deepti Sharma’s heroics against DC in Season 2. Reflecting on her achievement, Harris revealed that she had jokingly predicted it before the game. “Interestingly, I was joking in the bowlers’ meeting that I was going to take a hat-trick. It feels amazing to actually do it and contribute to this crucial win,” she said.

Kranti Goud’s fiery spell was another key factor in UPW’s triumph. Harris heaped praise on the young pacer, saying, “Kranti is a fantastic bowler with a determined mindset. Dismissing top-class batters like Shafali, Meg, Jemimah, and Jess isn’t easy, and she played a massive role in this win. I’m manifesting more wickets for her in the WPL.”

UPW’s morale is high as they now gear up to face the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), led by Smriti Mandhana. Harris emphasized the importance of preparation and focus ahead of their next challenge. “We need to be refreshed and relaxed on matchday and execute our plans well against RCB. The atmosphere will be electric, and a win against a top team like RCB will be a huge boost for us,” she added.

UPW’s journey in WPL 2025 has been an exciting one so far, and with players like Harris, Henry, and Kranti stepping up in crucial moments, they look set to make a serious impact this season. Fans can expect another thrilling contest when they take on RCB in what promises to be an intense battle at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
