Delhi Premier League T20 | West Delhi Lions edge past North Delhi Strikers by 3 wickets in Match 3

In the third match of the Adani Delhi Premier League T20, West Delhi Lions defeat North Delhi Strikers by three wickets.

New Delhi, August 18, 2024: In the third match of the Adani Delhi Premier League T20 at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, the West Delhi Lions defeated the North Delhi Strikers by three wickets thanks to innings of 40/20 from Akhil Chaudhary and a scorching 39 off 15 balls from Ankit Kumar.

After limiting North Delhi Strikers to 144/8 in 20 overs, West Delhi Lions were set up for success by Akhil Chaudhary's 4/20 with the ball. The goal was then reached in 18.3 overs by West Delhi Lions.

Ankit Kumar's rapid 39 off 15 balls gave the West Delhi Lions a head start in their pursuit of 145, as they reached 50 runs in just 3.1 overs. The very next delivery saw him dismissed by Anirudh Chowdhary after being caught.

Anmol Sharma (17 off 18) was trapped LBW by Manan Bhardwaj in the eighth over, while Shivam Gupta (12 off 8), who had provided good support for Ankit, was removed by Suyash Sharma in the next over. After eight overs, the West Delhi Lions were 76/3 and still in a strong position despite losing wickets quickly one after the other.

As an Impact player, Ekansh Dobal (27 off 24) and Dev Lakra (13 off 22) combined for a strong combination of 38 runs off 36 balls. But the Lions needed 24 runs from 30 balls when Lakra and Dobal were removed in the 14th and 15th overs, respectively.

Despite taking two late wickets in the 18th over (Hrithik Shokeen, 9 off 10, and Tishant Pawan Dabla, 4 off 2), the North Delhi Strikers were unable to hold on as the West Delhi Lions managed to chase down the remaining runs with nine balls remaining.

The West Delhi Lions bowlers did a good job of preventing the North Delhi Strikers from making a huge score after choosing to bowl first. The North Delhi Strikers lost Yash Dabas (10 off 11) and Sarthak Ranjan (1 off 6) by the end of the powerplay, leaving them at 48/2. Despite having made a respectable start, Vaibhav Kandpal was caught LBW by Hrithik Shokeen after reaching 29 off of 22 balls.

After seven overs with the score at 50/3, Vaibhav Rawal and Yash Bhatia steadied the ship with timely boundaries, forming an important partnership that saw them put on 74 runs in 55 deliveries, taking the team's total to 100 runs in the fourteenth over.

With the Strikers trying to pick up speed, Rawal was out for 36 off 29 balls in the 16th over. After 17 overs, North Delhi was struggling at 126/5 thanks to the 37 off 28 scored by his partner Bhatia in the subsequent over.

The West Delhi Lions took three early wickets to take control of the game after that. In the 18th over, Pranshu Vijayran (3 off 8) was dismissed cheaply by Navdeep Saini. Following the removal of Ranjan and Bhatia, Akhil Chaudhary concluded his stint with remarkable figures of 4/20, taking out Siddhant Sharma (6 off 3) and Pranav Rajvanshi (1 off 3) in the 19th over. North Delhi Strikers were limited to 144/8 by West Delhi Lions in 20 overs thanks to a tight final over bowled by Saini.
