The Exciting New T20 League Gears Up for an Electrifying Season
ST JOHN’S, ANTIGUA – The stage is set for the 2025 West Indies Breakout League (WIBL) as the six participating franchises have officially announced their protected players ahead of the highly anticipated player draft. This tournament, designed to showcase emerging cricket talent across the Caribbean, will take place from April 25 to May 10 at the iconic Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.
With a mission to develop the next generation of T20 stars, the tournament regulations allow each franchise to retain seven players, with a maximum of three aged between 27 and 29. The remaining players will be drafted from a pool of talented cricketers aged 26 or younger, ensuring the competition remains a breeding ground for rising stars.
Unique Tournament Regulations
To maintain its developmental focus, the West Indies Breakout League has implemented strict eligibility criteria:
Players must have played fewer than 40 List A T20 matches.
Players must not have more than 10 international T20 caps.
Each team must include at least one leg-spinner among their protected players.
These guidelines ensure that young, promising cricketers receive the exposure and high-level competition needed to advance in their professional careers.
