A new chapter in West Indies cricket is about to begin as Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) team up to introduce the West Indies Breakout League. Designed to highlight emerging cricket talent across the Caribbean, this exciting tournament will take place from April 25 to May 10, 2025, at the iconic Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.

A Tournament with a Vision

The West Indies Breakout League aims to serve as a bridge between domestic, CPL, and international cricket by offering young, talented players a platform to showcase their skills. With six teams competing in 17 matches, the tournament will be a crucial stepping stone for players hoping to progress to the CPL and ultimately, the West Indies national team.

The six teams participating in the tournament are:

• Guyana Rainforest Rangers

• Leeward Islands Thunder

• Trinidad & Tobago Legions

To ensure the focus remains on player development, eligibility for the tournament is restricted to those under 30 years old at the start of the event. Additionally, participants must have played fewer than 40 List A T20 matches and fewer than 10 T20 Internationals, making this competition a showcase for fresh and rising talent.

The tournament will feature a packed schedule with matches played exclusively at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. Fans can expect thrilling encounters between teams representing different territorial boards, each affiliated with a CPL franchise.

The league structure includes a round-robin format, with teams battling it out for a place in the playoffs. The top three teams will advance, with second and third place playing a qualifier on May 9. The winner of that match will then face the first-place team in the final on May 10, crowning the inaugural champion of the West Indies Breakout League.
