Scotland destroys West Indies World Cup dreams as McMullen stars | WI vs SCO CWC 2023 Qualifiers

Scotland defeated the same opponents by seven wickets in a victory that had McMullen at its core, repeating a victory against them from the previous year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

After winning the toss, Scotland captain Richie Berrington decided to field, and his choice was swiftly confirmed when four wickets fell in the first powerplay.

Chris McBride and Mark Watt both made quick catches to dismiss Johnson Charles and Shamarh Brooks without a run being scored. McMullen then held on to a return grab to dismiss Brandon King (22) as the Windies fell to 25 for three.

West Indies made a brief comeback under the leadership of captain Shai Hope (13) and Nicholas Pooran (21), but by the time the latter picked out McBride at deep mid-wicket, they were reeling at 81 for 6 in the 21st over.
When Chris Sole joined in, Kyle Mayers' off stump went flying out of the ground, turning it into 30 for four.

A 77-run partnership between Jason Holder (45) and Romario Shepherd (36) raised the score to respectable territory, but both fell in quick succession as a result of Safyaan Sharif's outstanding diving catch, which Watt took advantage of to claim his second victim.

West Indies were bowled out for 181 with 6.1 overs remaining as Sole and Chris Greaves both finished with two wickets each.

West Indies got a strong start with the ball when McBride chipped the opening ball of the run chase to mid-wicket, knowing they had to protect it to maintain their chances of qualifying.

For the fielding side, that was as good as it got, though, as McMullen and Cross took charge.

The first to reach his half-century, which took him 85 deliveries to complete, was McMullen, who was happy to rotate the strike and fast to punish anything slack.

Soon after, Cross followed suit, helped by three straight boundaries off the bowling of Kevin Sinclair, but he lost McMullen's company when he holed out to long-on with 57 needed.

George Munsey (18) also selected a boundary fielder, but captain Berrington teamed up with Cross to do the job. The wicketkeeper-batter then sealed the deal with a pull through deep mid-wicket to give Scotland its first-ever ODI triumph over the West Indies.

West Indies 181 all out in 43.5 overs (Jason Holder 45, Romario Shepherd 36; Brandon McMullen 3/32, Mark Watt 2/25)
Scotland 185/3 in 43.3 overs (Matthew Cross 74 not out, Brandon McMullen 67; Romario Shepherd 1/24, Jason Holder 1/29)
