WPL 2025 MI vs DC Highlights - Mumbai Indians Women vs Delhi Capitals Women, 2nd Match

Delhi Capitals Women held their nerve in a tense chase to secure a dramatic two-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians Women in the second match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara. In a game filled with twists and momentum swings, Delhi edged past Mumbai’s total of 164, reaching 165/8 in 20 overs, thanks to a composed batting effort and a crucial late contribution from Niki Prasad.

Mumbai Indians Women Post Competitive 164

After being sent in to bat, Mumbai Indians Women had a shaky start, losing opener Hayley Matthews for a duck in the very first over to Shikha Pandey. Yastika Bhatia played a brisk 19-run knock but failed to capitalize as she was dismissed in the fourth over. The innings was then stabilized by Nat Sciver-Brunt, who played a sensational knock of 80* off 59 balls, anchoring the innings while wickets kept falling around her.

Harmanpreet Kaur provided valuable support, smashing 42 off just 24 balls with three sixes, but her dismissal in the 11th over triggered a collapse. Amelia Kerr, Sajeevan Sajana, and Amanjot Kaur failed to make significant contributions, and Mumbai struggled to accelerate in the death overs. Annabel Sutherland (3/34) and Shikha Pandey (2/14) were the pick of the bowlers for Delhi Capitals, restricting Mumbai to 164 in 19.1 overs.

Delhi Capitals Survive a Scare in Chase

Chasing 165, Delhi Capitals Women got off to a promising start with Shafali Verma’s aggressive 43 off 18 balls, smashing two sixes and seven fours. However, her dismissal in the sixth over was followed by a sudden collapse as Meg Lanning (15), Jemimah Rodrigues (2), and Annabel Sutherland (13) fell in quick succession, leaving Delhi struggling at 76/4.

Alice Capsey and Niki Prasad then steadied the innings with a vital partnership. Prasad played a game-changing knock, scoring 35 off 33 deliveries under pressure. As Mumbai tightened their grip with late wickets, Delhi needed 18 runs from the last two overs.

Radha Yadav and Arundhati Reddy showed composure in the dying moments, with Radha’s crucial 9* off 4 balls helping Delhi get over the line. The Capitals reached 165/8 in their allotted 20 overs, clinching the match with just one ball to spare.

Bowling Effort Not Enough for Mumbai

Mumbai Indians Women fought hard with the ball, with Amelia Kerr (2/21) and Hayley Matthews (2/32) keeping the pressure on. Shabnim Ismail (1/18) was also economical, but Mumbai couldn’t prevent Delhi from inching their way to victory.

Delhi Capitals Women’s thrilling two-wicket win showcased their depth and resilience under pressure. With an all-round team effort and crucial cameos from the lower order, they started their WPL 2025 campaign on a winning note. Mumbai Indians Women, despite Sciver-Brunt’s heroic knock, will need to reassess their middle-order approach and death-over batting ahead of their next fixture.

As the tournament progresses, both teams will look to build momentum, with Delhi hoping to continue their winning form and Mumbai eager to bounce back stronger. Fans can expect more nail-biting encounters as WPL 2025 heats up.
