The Board of Cricket Control in India(BCCI) has named India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup that is to be held from 27th August to 11th September 2022 in the UAE. This is the 15th edition of the tournament and is being played between 6 countries which include India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan,Bangladesh and a qualifying team. This tournament would be played in a T20I format, considering that this would help the teams with the ICC T20 world cup ahead.
The teams are divided as follows:
- Group A: India, Pakistan and Qualifying team
- Group B: Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh
The super 4 will be considered from the top two teams of the respective groups and the final will be played between top 2 teams from the super 4.
India Squad: Rohit Sharma (captain), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Deepak Hooda, Yuzvendra Chahal
Stand-by: Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, Deepak Chahar
- Ishan Kishan, who played in the fifth T20I against the West Indies was dropped from 15-man squad along with Sanju Samson. That means India will most likely have only Rishabh Pant as a left-hander in their top-five lineup, with Ravindra Jadeja coming in later. Kuldeep Yadav also not featured in the squad as 3 spinners(Ashwin, Bishnoi & Chahal) already named in the squad
- Injured Jasprit Bumrah (Back Strain) and Harshal Patel (Side strain) ruled out.
