Australia Women continued their impressive campaign in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 with a commanding 9-wicket victory over Bangladesh Women at Headingley, Leeds. The defending champions showcased their strength with both bat and ball, comfortably chasing down a modest target to secure another crucial win in the tournament.
After winning the toss and opting to bowl, Australia Women immediately put Bangladesh Women under pressure. The Australian bowling attack delivered a disciplined performance, restricting Bangladesh to just 77/8 in 20 overs. Bangladesh struggled to build partnerships throughout the innings, with captain Nigar Sultana top-scoring with 27 runs from 47 balls. However, the lack of support from the middle order prevented Bangladesh from posting a competitive total.
The Australian bowlers were exceptional, led by Ellyse Perry, who claimed 2 wickets while maintaining control during the middle overs. Captain Sophie Molineux and Kim Garth also picked up two wickets each, while Annabel Sutherland and Georgia Wareham contributed with important breakthroughs. Australia's disciplined bowling effort ensured Bangladesh recorded one of the lowest totals of the tournament.
In reply, Australia Women made light work of the chase. Young opener Georgia Voll played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 45 runs from 32 balls, displaying confidence and attacking intent from the start. Although Beth Mooney departed for 10 runs, Australia never looked troubled.
Ellyse Perry once again demonstrated her class, remaining unbeaten on 19 runs and guiding the team home alongside Georgia Voll. Australia reached 78/1 in just 9.3 overs, finishing the chase with more than ten overs to spare. Perry's all-round excellence earned her the Player of the Match award, highlighting her continued importance to the Australian side.
The comprehensive victory further strengthens Australia's position in Group A of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026, while Bangladesh Women face an uphill challenge to keep their qualification hopes alive. With a balanced squad and strong performances from experienced stars and emerging talents, Australia Women continue to look like one of the strongest contenders for the World Cup title.
