The Bangladesh Cricket Board has opted to rest T20I captain Mahmudullah during the upcoming Zimbabwe series. In his absence, Nurul Hasan will captain the T20I team.
BCB president Nazmul Hasan recently stated that the board will meet with Mahmudullah to consider his immediate future following the senior batter's lengthy downturn as both a player and captain. On Friday (July 22), BCB officials met with Mahmudullah at a city hotel and afterward revealed their plan to rest their usual T20I captain.
''We have decided that Nurul Hasan will lead the side in the upcoming T20Is,'' Khaled told reporters after the meeting. 'It is not that Sohan will lead the team in the World Cup. 'We felt the T20 squad should make a new start as they are not performing well and we want the new guys to express them,'' he said.
Along with Mahmudullah, veteran keeper-bat Mushfiqur Rahim has been left out of the T20I team, despite being selected in the three-match ODI series that followed the T20Is. Veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has pulled out of the Zimbabwe trip. Meanwhile, Hasan Mahmud was named to the ODI squad, but Ebadot Hossain was dropped.
