25 August 2024, Lahore:
From October 3 to October 20, 2024, in the United Arab Emirates, the Pakistani women's cricket team will compete in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, which will be captained by Fatima Sana. The women's national selection committee made the choice unanimously.
The 22-year-old Fatima has led Pakistan's rising and local sides in the past. She has appeared in 41 ODIs and 40 T20Is. Additionally, in December 2023, she led Pakistan to a historic victory in an ODI at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch over New Zealand in a Super Over.
Nida Dar, a 37-year-old all-rounder who succeeded Bismah Maroof as all-format captain, will be replaced by Fatima. Nida is a member of the team that has been grouped with Australia, India, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka in Group A. He has played in 112 ODIs and 153 T20Is. In due order, the ICC will make public the updated group schedule.
The squad that competed in the ACC Women's Asia Cup in Sri Lanka last month has only seen one change made by the selection committee. Sadaf Shamas, a right-handed batter who participated in the 2023 ICC Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa, has returned to the team as a substitute for wicketkeeper-batter Najiha Alvi, who will travel with the team as a reserve player.
Aliya Riaz, Fatima Sana, Muneeba Ali, Nashra Sundhu, Nida Dar, Omaima Sohail, Sadaf Shamas, Sadia Iqbal, Sidra Amin, and Tuba Hassan are the ten players from the 2023 edition who have been retained, while left-arm pacer Tasmia Rubab, who is uncapped, makes it to the final 15. Subject to fitness, Sadia Iqbal, a left-arm spinner, has been added to the team.
The following is the Pakistani team for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024: captain Fatima Sana; wicketkeeper Muneeba Ali; Aliya Riaz; Diana Baig; Gull Feroza; Iram Javed; Nashra Sundhu; Nida Dar; Omaima Sohail; Sadaf Shamas; Sadia Iqbal (depending on fitness); Sidra Amin; Syeda Aroob Shah; Tasmia Rubab; and Tuba Hassan
