Harry Brook’s Century Leads England to Crucial 46-Run Win (DLS) in 3rd ODI Against Australia | ENG vs AUS

England vs Australia 3rd ODI – (Chester-le-Street, September 25, 2024)

England kept their ODI series hopes alive with a 46-run victory (DLS method) over Australia in the 3rd ODI at Chester-le-Street. This win brought the series score to 2-1, with two matches remaining. The victory also ended Australia's 14-match ODI winning streak.

Australia Innings:

After being asked to bat first, Australia posted a competitive 304/7 in their 50 overs. Despite losing early wickets, a key 84-run partnership between Steve Smith (60 off 82 balls) and Cameron Green (42 off 52) steadied the innings. Alex Carey provided the finishing touch with an unbeaten 77 off 65 balls, while Aaron Hardie (44 off 38) and Glenn Maxwell (30) chipped in valuable runs. England’s bowlers, led by Jofra Archer (2/51), kept things under control, with Brydon Carse, Jacob Bethell, Will Jacks, and Liam Livingstone each picking up a wicket.

England Innings:

Chasing 305, England found themselves in trouble early, reduced to 11/2 as Mitchell Starc removed openers Phil Salt and Ben Duckett. However, Will Jacks (84 off 82 balls) and captain Harry Brook (110* off 94 balls) anchored the innings with a 156-run partnership, guiding England back into the game. Brook’s first ODI century was a masterclass in composure and stroke-making, as he remained unbeaten when rain stopped play at 254/4 after 38.2 overs. With England ahead of the DLS par score, they were declared winners by 46 runs. Liam Livingstone's quickfire 33 off 22 balls added crucial runs before the rain intervention.

This result gives England a chance to level the series in the fourth ODI, scheduled for September 27, 2024, at The Oval.
