Hassan Khan Powers San Francisco Unicorns Into MLC 2026 Playoffs
Hassan Khan delivered one of the most explosive cameos of the Major League Cricket 2026 season as the San Francisco Unicorns booked their place in the playoffs with a thrilling six-wicket victory over Seattle Orcas. Chasing a challenging target of 191, Hassan Khan changed the game in just 10 deliveries, smashing an unbeaten 36 to complete the chase with an over to spare and eliminate the Orcas from playoff contention.
The match was a perfect example of T20 cricket at its unpredictable best. While San Francisco Unicorns appeared to be cruising early in the chase, Seattle Orcas fought back brilliantly in the middle overs before Hassan Khan produced a breathtaking finish that left the opposition with no answers.
The Unicorns enjoyed a flying start thanks to Finn Allen, who once again showcased his aggressive batting style. The New Zealand opener attacked from the outset and raced to a superb 65, dominating the powerplay with powerful strokes all around the ground. Matt Short complemented him well, ensuring the required run rate remained under control during the first half of the innings.
However, after Allen's dismissal, the chase lost momentum. Seattle Orcas tightened their bowling, slowing the scoring rate and building pressure. Matt Short struggled to accelerate despite spending valuable time at the crease, and the required rate steadily climbed heading into the final four overs.
That was when Hassan Khan walked in and completely transformed the contest. Facing just 10 deliveries, Hassan Khan launched an extraordinary assault on the bowlers. He began by smashing consecutive sixes against Tanveer Sangha before taking on Marcus Stoinis in sensational fashion. A sequence of six, four, four and another towering six completely shifted the momentum in San Francisco's favour.
The clean hitting from Hassan Khan ensured there was no late drama as the Unicorns comfortably crossed the finish line. His fearless approach under pressure proved to be the defining moment of the match and one of the finest finishing acts of the tournament.
Earlier, Seattle Orcas posted a competitive total of 190/7 after recovering from early setbacks. Matthew Breetzke played an outstanding innings of 55, striking the ball with confidence and timing throughout his stay. Shimron Hetmyer added valuable runs during a crucial partnership, while captain Marcus Stoinis chipped in with a fighting 49 despite taking time to settle.
Although the Orcas reached 190, they felt slightly short of an ideal total. Their bowling attack also missed the services of leading wicket-taker Ottneil Baartman, whose absence was evident during the death overs when Hassan Khan launched his unforgettable attack.
The victory confirmed San Francisco Unicorns as table-toppers heading into the MLC 2026 playoffs. Alongside them, Los Angeles Knight Riders, MI New York and Washington Freedom also secured qualification for the knockout stage.
For Seattle Orcas, the defeat marked a disappointing end to their campaign after showing promise throughout the season. Despite strong performances from Breetzke and Stoinis, they could not stop Hassan Khan from producing a match-winning innings that will be remembered as one of the standout knocks of MLC 2026.
With the playoffs approaching, San Francisco Unicorns will take enormous confidence from the finishing brilliance of Hassan Khan, whose fearless batting has added another dangerous dimension to an already formidable squad.
