The latest ICC Board Elections have produced one of the biggest administrative surprises in international cricket, with long-serving International Cricket Council Deputy Chairman Imran Khwaja losing his place on the governing body. The outcome marks the end of an influential era in Associate cricket administration and introduces fresh leadership to one of cricket's most powerful decision-making groups.

Held during the ICC Annual Conference in Edinburgh, the ICC Board Elections saw France's Gurumurthy Palani, UAE's Mubashir Usmani, and Namibia's Dr. Rudie van Vuuren secure the three available Associate Member Director positions on the prestigious 17-member ICC Board.

Among the most notable outcomes of the ICC Board Elections was the defeat of Singapore-based administrator Imran Khwaja, who narrowly missed out after finishing fourth in the voting. Khwaja received 23 votes, while Palani topped the poll with 35 votes. Usmani and van Vuuren each secured 26 votes to earn their places on the board for the next two years.

The ICC Board Elections attracted considerable attention because of Khwaja's long-standing influence within global cricket governance. Over the years, he played a central role in shaping Associate cricket and previously served as the ICC's interim chairman in 2020 following the departure of Shashank Manohar. Voting in the ICC Board Elections involved 43 eligible Associate Members after USA Cricket and Cricket Canada remained suspended from ICC membership. Each voting member was allocated three votes, resulting in a total of 129 votes being cast during the election process.
