India produced a batting masterclass to overpower Afghanistan by 170 runs in the second ODI of the Afghanistan Tour of India 2026 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The victory was built around sensational centuries from captain Shubman Gill and wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, who dismantled the Afghan bowling attack with an explosive partnership.
After losing Yashasvi Jaiswal early, India recovered through Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Rohit provided a brisk start with 48 runs before Rashid Khan broke the partnership. From there, Gill took complete control of the innings. The Indian captain played one of the finest ODI knocks of his career, smashing 154 runs from just 110 deliveries, including 22 boundaries and two sixes. His aggressive stroke play kept the scoreboard moving at a rapid pace and placed Afghanistan under constant pressure.
Ishan Kishan complemented Gill perfectly with a breathtaking innings of 125 off only 79 balls. The left-hander hammered 14 fours and seven sixes, turning the middle overs into a boundary-hitting exhibition. Their massive 224-run partnership for the third wicket became the defining moment of the match and helped India surge past the 400-run mark. India eventually posted a huge total of 402 all out in 49.5 overs.
Afghanistan started positively during the chase with Rahmanullah Gurbaz scoring 41 and Sediqullah Atal contributing 42. Rahmat Shah fought valiantly with a well-made 79, but the visitors never truly threatened India's target. India's bowling attack maintained control throughout the innings, regularly picking up wickets to halt Afghanistan's progress.
Arshdeep Singh impressed with three wickets, while debutant Prince Yadav claimed two important wickets in his first international appearance. Gurnoor Brar also picked up three wickets to ensure Afghanistan were bowled out for 232 in 44.3 overs.
Shubman Gill was deservedly named Player of the Match for his magnificent 154-run innings. The comprehensive victory highlighted India's batting depth and bowling strength, while Afghanistan struggled to cope with India's relentless pressure. With Gill and Kishan in outstanding form, India will head into the next match full of confidence as they continue their impressive run in ODI cricket.
