Team India (Senior Women) Announce Squads for England Tour 2025 Featuring 5 T20Is and 3 ODIs
May 15, 2025 Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the Team India (Senior Women) squads for the much-anticipated tour of England, which includes five T20 Internationals and three One Day Internationals scheduled between June 28 and July 22, 2025. The selection, made by the Women’s Selection Committee, brings a mix of experienced internationals and promising new names to the Indian setup, indicating both continuity and a strong focus on building depth in the women’s game.
Harmanpreet Kaur continues as captain in both formats, with Smriti Mandhana named her deputy. The squads feature some of the most consistent performers in recent times, alongside emerging domestic stars earning well-deserved call-ups for their impressive showings in the Senior Women’s T20 and One Day Trophy tournaments.
Team India Gears Up for Multi-Format England Tour
This bilateral tour is set to begin with the 1st T20I on June 28 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, and will be followed by four more T20Is at major English venues including The Oval, Old Trafford, and Edgbaston. The tour will conclude with a three-match ODI series, starting July 16 at The Rose Bowl, Southampton, and ending with a marquee fixture at Lord’s on July 19.
This England tour is not just a high-profile bilateral contest, but a crucial part of India's preparations for the 2026 ICC Women's T20 World Cup, and also carries significance in the ICC Women’s Championship cycle, where ODI performances contribute to World Cup qualification standings.
Selection Focuses on Balanced Experience and Emerging Talent
The India Women’s T20I squad retains its core leadership group, including Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Richa Ghosh, who are expected to lead the batting department. The explosive Shafali and dependable Jemimah form a dynamic top order, while Ghosh and Yastika Bhatia, both named as wicketkeepers, continue to provide India a versatile middle order and finishing options.
The inclusion of Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, and Amanjot Kaur ensures a strong all-round contingent that gives flexibility in team combinations. Sree Charani, Shuchi Upadhyay, and Kranti Gaud are notable inclusions, all three having impressed selectors with their performances on the domestic circuit, and now handed an opportunity to step onto the international stage.
Among bowlers, Sayali Satghare, who was instrumental in Maharashtra’s T20 campaign, joins Arundhati Reddy, offering pace options. Reddy, who has been part of India’s white-ball setup since 2018, continues to remain a reliable seam-bowling all-rounder in limited-overs formats.
ODI Squad Adds Fresh Names for Format-Specific Depth
While the ODI squad retains many players from the T20 group, there are a few fresh additions aimed at bolstering India’s 50-over strategy. Pratika Rawal and Tejal Hasabnis are the most prominent inclusions, with Rawal delivering consistent middle-order performances for Baroda and Tejal shining in the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy with both bat and ball.
India’s bowling attack for the ODIs blends youth and experience, with Sneh Rana and Deepti Sharma doubling up as spin-bowling all-rounders, while pace options will revolve around Sayali Satghare, Arundhati Reddy, and Shuchi Upadhyay.
The selection also reiterates BCCI’s ongoing strategy to promote a rotation policy and provide game time to high-performing domestic cricketers. This format-specific approach not only strengthens India’s bench but ensures long-term sustainability of talent across formats.
Tour Schedule Promises Thrilling Summer for Women’s Cricket
The eight-match England tour is expected to be one of the highlights of the women’s international calendar this summer, featuring matches in iconic stadiums such as Kennington Oval, Lord’s, and Edgbaston. This series follows a competitive domestic season for India and comes at a time when both boards are actively pushing the visibility of the women’s game.
India’s last tour of England in 2022 saw closely fought contests, and the 2025 edition promises to be equally riveting. England, under the leadership of Heather Knight, will be keen to test their depth and assert dominance at home, while India will look to use this tour as a launchpad for a new wave of performers, many of whom could be central to their ICC event campaigns in the near future.
BCCI’s Continued Push for Women’s Cricket Growth
The BCCI, led by Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia, has been vocal about expanding opportunities for women cricketers. The Women’s Premier League, consistent domestic competitions, and bilateral tours such as these provide a clear pathway for India’s young cricketers to transition from domestic dominance to international exposure.
This selection, with its blend of senior names and upcoming talent, highlights the depth of India’s women’s cricket ecosystem. As players like Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Deepti Sharma continue to mature as core team members, names like Kranti Gaud, Sree Charani, and Pratika Rawal are poised to follow suit.
