MI New York Beat Texas Super Kings as Nicholas Pooran and Trent Boult Shine in MLC 2026
Defending champions MI New York bounced back in style to register their first victory of the Major League Cricket 2026 season, defeating Texas Super Kings by eight wickets at Grand Prairie Stadium. A disciplined bowling display led by Trent Boult and Corbin Bosch, followed by a captain's knock from Nicholas Pooran, helped MI New York secure a comfortable win with 14 balls to spare.
After losing their opening fixture, the victory gives MI New York valuable momentum as the MLC 2026 campaign begins to gather pace.
Trent Boult Sets the Tone with Early Wickets
New Zealand pace star Trent Boult wasted no time making an impact. Bowling with his trademark swing and accuracy, Boult dismissed Smit Patel in the opening over before producing a superb delivery to remove Rilee Rossouw, reducing Texas Super Kings to 20/2.
The Super Kings were already missing regular captain Faf du Plessis, who sat out the match due to a back spasm, and the early breakthroughs left the batting lineup under pressure.
Corbin Bosch complemented Boult brilliantly by striking before the end of the powerplay, leaving Texas struggling at 36/3. The MI New York bowlers maintained tight lines and prevented the opposition from building any significant partnerships.
Milind Kumar and Shubham Ranjane Fight Back
Despite the early collapse, Milind Kumar and Shubham Ranjane steadied the innings with an important 65-run partnership. Their composed batting briefly shifted the momentum and gave Texas Super Kings hope of posting a competitive total.
Ranjane narrowly missed a well-deserved half-century, falling for 49, while Bosch returned to dismiss Donovan Ferreira and Wiaan Mulder during the closing stages of the innings.
Texas Super Kings were eventually bowled out for 158 with four deliveries remaining, a score that looked below par considering the batting-friendly conditions.
Nicholas Pooran Leads the Chase in Style
MI New York started the chase aggressively with Quinton de Kock taking charge from the very first over. The experienced wicketkeeper-batter attacked Akeal Hosein with confidence, striking boundaries and a six to put immediate pressure on the bowlers.
Texas Super Kings missed a crucial opportunity when Monank Patel was dropped in the third over, and the mistake proved costly. Monank and de Kock added 49 runs for the opening wicket before Monank partnered captain Nicholas Pooran in another match-defining stand worth 64 runs.
Monank Patel played an excellent innings of 46, bringing MI New York within touching distance of victory before departing.
Pooran Finishes the Job
Captain Nicholas Pooran once again demonstrated why he is one of the most dangerous T20 batters in world cricket. Rotating the strike intelligently before accelerating at the right moment, Pooran remained unbeaten on 68 and guided his side across the finish line with authority.
His calm leadership and explosive batting ensured there were no late hiccups as MI New York completed the chase with eight wickets in hand and 14 balls remaining.
A Perfect Response from the Champions
The comprehensive victory highlights the balance and depth of the defending champions. Boult's new-ball brilliance, Bosch's all-round bowling performance and Pooran's composed finish combined to deliver a complete team effort.
With their first points secured, MI New York will now look to build consistency as they continue their MLC 2026 title defence, while Texas Super Kings will aim to bounce back quickly and regain momentum in the highly competitive tournament.
