Amir, currently applying for UK citizenship through his wife Narjis, has expressed his hope of securing a spot in the world’s most lucrative T20 league if his citizenship is granted.

In a recent interview on the Pakistani talk show Harna Mana Hay, Amir confirmed his intention to play in the IPL. “By next year, I will have the opportunity to take part in the IPL, so why not?” he stated, igniting conversations across the cricketing fraternity.

How Can Amir Play in IPL

Since 2009, Pakistani cricketers have been barred from participating in the IPL due to political tensions between India and Pakistan. However, players with foreign passports are eligible, as seen with players of Pakistani origin like Imran Tahir and Azhar Mahmood, who represented IPL franchises after securing South African and British citizenships, respectively.

If Amir successfully obtains UK citizenship, he would no longer be classified as a Pakistani national and could theoretically enter the IPL auction. “I was overwhelmed by his action. I have always been a great admirer of his batting, and he has admired my bowling. I played some good knocks with his bat,” Amir revealed. Royal Challengers Bangalore has long been one of the most popular franchises in IPL history but has yet to win a title since the tournament’s inception in 2008. However, Shehzad’s statement was met with skepticism from former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif, who argued that as long as MS Dhoni remains with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), RCB’s title chances will be slim.

“Till MS Dhoni is there in CSK, don’t even think RCB can touch the IPL trophy,” Latif remarked, highlighting CSK’s dominance in the league. With five IPL titles under Dhoni’s leadership, Chennai Super Kings have established themselves as one of the most formidable franchises, often overshadowing RCB in crucial matches.
