Nikin Jose Century Leads Coastal Kings Mangaluru to Dominant Win Over Gulbarga Mystics
Nikin Jose produced a breathtaking batting display to register the first century of the fifth edition of the DACSS Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20, guiding Coastal Kings Mangaluru to a commanding eight-wicket victory over Gulbarga Mystics in Mysuru. Supported brilliantly by captain Karun Nair, the stylish right-hander remained unbeaten on 100 from just 47 deliveries as his side chased down a competitive target of 178 with 21 balls to spare.
The emphatic victory handed Coastal Kings their first win of the tournament after their opening fixture was washed out, while Gulbarga Mystics suffered a second consecutive defeat.
Nikin Jose and Karun Nair Build a Match Winning Partnership
Chasing 178, Coastal Kings Mangaluru lost opener Muralidhara Venkatesh early but quickly recovered through an outstanding partnership between Nikin Jose and Karun Nair.
The duo added 96 runs in only 52 deliveries, putting immediate pressure on the Gulbarga bowlers. Karun Nair showcased his class with an elegant 56 off 36 balls, striking six boundaries and three sixes while rotating the strike effortlessly.
At the other end, Nikin Jose paced his innings perfectly before launching a spectacular assault in the second half of the chase. His ability to combine timing with power kept the required run rate under control throughout the innings.
Although Karun Nair was run out after an unfortunate mix-up in the 12th over, the damage had already been done.
Nikin Jose Creates Tournament History
With victory within touching distance, Nikin Jose shifted into another gear and entertained the Mysuru crowd with fearless stroke play.
The 24-year-old reached the tournament's first century in unforgettable fashion by smashing consecutive sixes off the final two deliveries of the chase.
His unbeaten 100 came from just 47 balls and featured seven fours and eight massive sixes, underlining one of the finest T20 innings of the season.
Jose's composed yet explosive knock ensured Coastal Kings finished on 181/2 in only 16.3 overs and completed one of the most convincing chases of the competition.
Manish Pandey Fights Lone Battle
Earlier in the evening, Gulbarga Mystics endured a difficult start before captain Manish Pandey launched a brilliant counterattack.
With wickets falling regularly, Pandey took responsibility and stitched together a valuable 61-run partnership with Dhruv Prabhakar. The experienced batter raced to a 24-ball half-century and eventually scored an entertaining 70 from just 34 deliveries, including seven fours and three sixes.
Prabhakar added a useful 22 off 14 balls, helping the Mystics recover to 176/6 heading into the final over.
However, the innings ended dramatically as they lost four wickets for just one run in the last five deliveries.
Bowlers Set Up Coastal Kings Victory
The Coastal Kings bowling unit played a vital role in restricting Gulbarga Mystics below the 180-run mark.
Shreyas Gopal impressed with figures of 3/40, consistently breaking partnerships in the middle overs. Vasuki Koushik claimed two wickets, while medium pacer C.A. Karthik delivered a superb final over to finish with 2/15 and trigger the late collapse.
Their disciplined effort ensured the batting lineup had a manageable target, which Nikin Jose and Karun Nair chased down in style.
With their first victory secured and confidence growing, Coastal Kings Mangaluru have announced themselves as serious contenders in the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20, while Gulbarga Mystics will look to regroup quickly after another disappointing outing.
