Pakistan Women vs New Zealand Women, 19th Match, Group A | ICC Women's T20 World Cup, 2024

New Zealand Women reached the semi-finals of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup for the fifth time and the first since 2016 after a comprehensive 54-run victory over Pakistan Women in Group A. The result also saw both India and Pakistan eliminated from the tournament.

Opting to bat first at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, New Zealand posted a challenging total of 110 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs. Suzie Bates (28 off 29) anchored the innings, while Georgia Plimmer (17 off 14) and Brooke Halliday (22 off 24) provided crucial contributions. Pakistan’s spin attack, led by Nashra Sandhu (3 for 18), restricted New Zealand from posting a bigger score.

In reply, Pakistan's batting crumbled under relentless pressure from New Zealand's bowlers. Lea Tahuhu struck early, bowling Muneeba Ali (15 off 11), and Eden Carson (3 for 17) dismantled the middle order. Amelia Kerr’s all-round brilliance (3 for 14) added to Pakistan’s woes as they were bundled out for a paltry 56 in just 11.4 overs.

With this dominant victory, New Zealand Women sealed their semi-final berth, marking their resurgence on the global stage. Pakistan, despite some promising performances earlier in the tournament, failed to chase the modest total and bowed out alongside India.

Brief Scores:

New Zealand Women: 110/6 in 20 overs (Suzie Bates 28, Brooke Halliday 22; Nashra Sandhu 3/18)
Pakistan Women: 56 all out in 11.4 overs (Muneeba Ali 15, Fatima Sana 21; Eden Carson 3/17, Amelia Kerr 3/14)

Result: New Zealand Women won by 54 runs.
Player of the Match: Eden Carson

With this win, New Zealand looks forward to continuing their stellar run in the tournament, while Pakistan heads home disappointed.
