RCB Become First Team to Qualify for IPL 2026 Playoffs After Dominant Win Over Punjab Kings

Royal Challengers Bengaluru officially became the first team to qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs after registering a dominant victory against Punjab Kings in a high-scoring clash at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.

The massive win not only strengthened RCB’s position at the top of the IPL 2026 points table but also confirmed their place in the playoffs ahead of every other franchise. Bengaluru fans across the world erupted with excitement as the team delivered another complete performance in one of the most important matches of the season.

After Punjab Kings won the toss and chose to bowl first, Royal Challengers Bengaluru produced an explosive batting display and posted a huge total of 222/4 in 20 overs. The innings was built around powerful contributions from Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, Venkatesh Iyer, and Tim David.

Virat Kohli once again showed his experience and consistency with a brilliant knock of 58 runs from 37 balls. The former RCB captain controlled the innings during the middle overs and played several classy attacking shots that energized Bengaluru supporters.

Devdutt Padikkal continued his impressive IPL 2026 form with an aggressive innings of 45 runs off 25 deliveries. His partnership with Kohli helped RCB maintain momentum and put pressure on the Punjab Kings bowling attack throughout the powerplay and middle overs.

The biggest impact came from Venkatesh Iyer, who smashed an unbeaten 73 runs from 40 balls at a strike rate above 180. The left-handed batter attacked aggressively in the death overs and completely changed the momentum of the match with fearless strokeplay.

Australian finisher Tim David also delivered a destructive cameo by scoring 28 runs from only 12 balls. His late assault pushed Royal Challengers Bengaluru beyond the 220-run mark and ensured Punjab Kings faced a massive target under pressure.

Punjab Kings bowlers struggled to stop RCB’s aggressive batting lineup despite Harpreet Brar picking up two wickets. Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh managed one wicket each, but Bengaluru batters consistently found boundaries across all phases of the innings.

In reply, Punjab Kings suffered early setbacks after losing Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh cheaply inside the powerplay. Captain Shreyas Iyer also failed to make an impact as RCB bowlers kept complete control during the chase.

Despite strong fighting knocks from Shashank Singh, Marcus Stoinis, and Suryansh Shedge, Punjab Kings eventually finished on 199/8 in 20 overs, falling short by 23 runs.

Young pacer Rasikh Salam Dar emerged as one of the heroes for Bengaluru with a brilliant three-wicket spell. Experienced bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar also played important roles in restricting Punjab Kings during crucial stages of the innings.

The victory officially confirmed Royal Challengers Bengaluru as the first qualified team of IPL 2026, making this one of the most memorable moments for RCB fans in recent years. Social media platforms were flooded with reactions, celebrations, and the famous slogan “Ee Sala Cup Namde” immediately started trending again.

One of the biggest reasons behind RCB’s success this season has been their balanced squad. Unlike previous years where the team heavily depended on only a few players, IPL 2026 has seen contributions coming from almost every department including batting, bowling, and fielding.

Virat Kohli’s consistency at the top, Venkatesh Iyer’s finishing ability, Tim David’s power-hitting, and Josh Hazlewood’s bowling performances have turned Bengaluru into one of the strongest teams in the tournament this year.

Another major positive for RCB has been their fearless batting intent. The team has consistently attacked opposition bowlers from the powerplay itself, helping them post massive totals and dominate run chases throughout IPL 2026.

RCB’s qualification also carries huge emotional value for fans because the franchise is still searching for its maiden IPL trophy despite reaching the playoffs multiple times in previous seasons. Supporters now strongly believe this squad has the potential to finally end that long wait.

As IPL 2026 enters the playoff stage, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will now focus on maintaining momentum and securing a top-two finish in the points table. With confidence running high inside the camp, RCB have now emerged as serious contenders for the IPL 2026 title.
