Ruturaj Gaikwad once again proved why he is regarded as one of India’s finest young batters after producing a brilliant match-winning century for India A in the opening match of the Tri Nation A Series 2026 against Sri Lanka A in Dambulla. Battling difficult conditions and early wickets, Gaikwad played a calm and responsible innings of 101 runs, helping India A post a strong total of 277/6 in 50 overs. His innings earned him the Player of the Match award as India A eventually secured a thrilling 8-run victory.

Speaking after the match, Gaikwad admitted that the conditions in Sri Lanka were far from easy and completely different from Indian pitches. He highlighted the impact of the windy conditions and explained how important it was for one batter to stay till the end of the innings. The stylish opener said the team’s focus was on rotating strike and avoiding unnecessary risks during the middle overs where batting became challenging for new batters.

After early dismissals of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Prabhsimran Singh, Gaikwad stabilized the innings alongside captain Tilak Varma, who also played an important knock of 60 runs. Their partnership laid the perfect foundation for India A before Ayush Badoni and Suryansh Shedge accelerated in the final overs to push the score close to 280.

Sri Lanka A responded strongly in the chase with valuable contributions from Niroshan Dickwella, Sadeera Samarawickrama, and captain Sahan Arachchige, who scored a fighting 74. However, India A bowlers kept their composure during the death overs. Ayush Badoni, Vipraj Nigam, Anukul Roy, and Arshad Khan delivered timely breakthroughs as Sri Lanka A were bowled out for 269 in 48.5 overs.

The victory gives India A a strong start in the Tri Nation A Series and also highlights the depth of young talent coming through the Indian cricket system. More importantly, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s composed century under pressure has once again strengthened his case as a future leader and dependable top-order batter for Indian cricket.
