Shivamogga Yodhas Storm to Second Spot After Dominant Win Over Coastal Kings Mangaluru
Shivamogga Yodhas delivered one of their most complete performances of the DACSS Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 season, defeating Coastal Kings Mangaluru by seven wickets to climb to second place in the points table. Powered by a remarkable unbeaten century partnership between Aneesh KV and Smaran R, Shivamogga Yodhas recovered brilliantly from an early collapse to chase down a competitive target with 10 balls to spare.
The victory showcased the resilience of Shivamogga Yodhas, who overcame early setbacks before producing a clinical batting display that left Coastal Kings searching for answers.
Earlier, Shivamogga Yodhas produced a disciplined bowling effort to restrict Coastal Kings Mangaluru to 162/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Shreesha Achar, Abhilash Shetty and Dhanush Gowda shared the bowling honours, each returning identical figures of 2/33 while ensuring the opposition never managed to accelerate consistently.
Coastal Kings began steadily through openers Aadharsh and Nikin Jose, adding 35 runs for the opening wicket. While Jose anchored the innings with a composed 51 from 41 deliveries, Shivamogga Yodhas kept striking at regular intervals to maintain control.
Dhanush Gowda provided the breakthrough by dismissing Aadharsh before removing Karun Nair just three balls later. Soon after, Shreesha Achar dealt another double blow by sending back Siddharth Akhil and Shreyas Gopal, leaving Coastal Kings struggling to rebuild.
Although Suraj Ahuja injected momentum with a quickfire 39 from 19 deliveries and CA Karthik remained unbeaten on 36 off just 20 balls, Shivamogga Yodhas executed their plans brilliantly during the closing overs. Abhilash Shetty claimed two important wickets late in the innings to prevent the batting side from posting a bigger total.
Chasing 163 for victory, Shivamogga Yodhas endured a difficult start. Orange Cap holder Luvnith Sisodia departed cheaply for five, while Tushar Singh and Naveen MG also returned to the pavilion inside the powerplay. At 40/3, the match appeared evenly poised.
However, the contest changed dramatically once Aneesh KV and Smaran R came together at the crease.
The pair displayed remarkable composure under pressure, building an unbeaten partnership of 125 runs from only 75 deliveries. Their understanding, smart running between the wickets and calculated aggression completely shifted the momentum in favour of Shivamogga Yodhas.
Aneesh KV led the recovery with a superb unbeaten 76, reaching his half-century in just 31 balls. His innings featured eight elegant boundaries and two towering sixes as he dominated the bowling attack with confidence and authority.
At the other end, Smaran R played the perfect supporting role before accelerating beautifully. The stylish left-hander remained unbeaten on 53 from just 32 deliveries, striking six boundaries and two sixes. He fittingly sealed the victory with a powerful six over midwicket, bringing up his own half-century in style.
Their partnership ensured Shivamogga Yodhas comfortably reached 165/3 in just 18.2 overs, completing one of the finest run chases of the tournament so far.
The win carries significant importance in the league standings. Shivamogga Yodhas have now moved into second place with eight points from eight matches, strengthening their chances of qualifying for the knockout stage. Meanwhile, Coastal Kings Mangaluru slipped to third after suffering their fourth defeat of the campaign.
With both the bowling unit and middle order firing at the right time, Shivamogga Yodhas appear to be gathering momentum at the perfect stage of the tournament. If they continue producing performances of this quality, they will undoubtedly emerge as one of the strongest contenders for the DACSS Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 title.
