Shivamogga Yodhas Cruise Into Qualifier 2 With Convincing Win Over Mysore Warriors
The Shivamogga Yodhas kept their Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 title hopes alive with a commanding seven-wicket victory over the Mysore Warriors in the Eliminator at Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Producing a clinical all-round performance, the Shivamogga Yodhas chased down a target of 162 with 23 balls to spare to book their place in Qualifier 2.
The victory carried extra significance as the Shivamogga Yodhas avenged the heavy defeat they had suffered against the same opponents in their final league-stage fixture just two days earlier. This time, they showcased composure with both ball and bat to stay alive in the tournament.
Batting first, the Mysore Warriors struggled to build momentum against a disciplined bowling attack. The Shivamogga Yodhas struck early through Abhilash Shetty and Naveen MG, who ripped through the top order to leave the Warriors in deep trouble at 66 for 6 after 13 overs.
Abhilash Shetty was particularly impressive, finishing with outstanding figures of 3 for 14, while Naveen MG picked up three crucial wickets despite conceding runs. Their efforts ensured the Warriors never found sustained partnerships during the middle overs.
Just when it appeared the innings would collapse completely, captain Vyshak Vijayakumar and Madhav Bajaj stitched together a useful partnership to stabilize the innings. However, the Shivamogga Yodhas quickly regained control by dismissing both batters in quick succession.
The biggest surprise came from No. 10 batter Abhishek Prabhakar, who produced a remarkable late cameo. His unbeaten 36 from just 10 balls, featuring five towering sixes and a boundary, transformed the innings. He smashed 28 runs in the final over and shared an unbeaten 40-run stand with Lavish Kaushal, helping Mysore Warriors finish on a competitive 161 for 9.
Despite the late flourish, the Shivamogga Yodhas approached the chase with confidence. Openers Luvnith Sisodia and Tushar Singh immediately put pressure on the Warriors with an outstanding opening partnership worth 95 runs.
Sisodia continued his excellent tournament with a sparkling 56 from only 35 deliveries. His innings included seven boundaries and two sixes and helped him reclaim the tournament's prestigious Orange Cap with 374 runs. Tushar Singh complemented him perfectly by scoring a composed 53 from 39 balls, keeping the required run rate comfortably under control throughout the chase.
Although Abhishek Prabhakar followed up his batting heroics with two wickets, the Shivamogga Yodhas never allowed the Warriors an opportunity to make a comeback. K V Aneesh finished the contest in style with an unbeaten 35 off just 16 deliveries, striking three fours and two sixes. Younis Ali Baig remained unbeaten as the chase was completed with nearly four overs to spare.
The victory underlined the balanced nature of the Shivamogga Yodhas squad. Their bowlers delivered breakthroughs at crucial moments, while the batting unit executed the chase with maturity and attacking intent.
With this result, the Shivamogga Yodhas move into Qualifier 2, where they will face the loser of the Qualifier 1 clash between Bengaluru Blasters and Coastal Kings Mangaluru. A win there will secure a place in the tournament final.
After bouncing back strongly from their previous defeat, the Shivamogga Yodhas have regained momentum at exactly the right stage of the competition. Their comprehensive performance in the Eliminator has reaffirmed their credentials as serious contenders for the inaugural Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 title, setting up another exciting knockout encounter.
