Shrachi Rarh Tigers Win Maiden Bengal Mens T20 League Season 3 Title After Shahbaz Ahmed Heroics
Shrachi Rarh Tigers scripted history by lifting their first-ever Bengal Mens T20 League Season 3 trophy after defeating Sobisco Smashers Malda by nine runs through the DLS method in a thrilling final at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday. The victory not only earned the franchise its maiden title but also ensured that the tournament crowned a new champion for the third consecutive season.
Leading from the front, captain Shahbaz Ahmed delivered one of the finest innings of the tournament, smashing an unbeaten 88 off just 46 deliveries. His explosive knock featured seven boundaries and six towering sixes, helping the Tigers recover from an early collapse and post a match-winning total.
Brief Scores: Shrachi Rarh Tigers 165/4 (15 overs) beat Sobisco Smashers Malda 97/5 (9 overs) by nine runs (DLS Method).
Shahbaz Ahmed Anchors Remarkable Recovery
Rain interrupted the summit clash before the start, forcing officials to reduce the contest to 15 overs per side. Sobisco Smashers Malda won the toss and elected to field, a decision that looked perfect when the Tigers stumbled to 10/3 in the opening overs.
However, Shahbaz Ahmed showcased outstanding composure under pressure. Combining aggressive stroke play with smart cricket, he rebuilt the innings alongside Gaurav Singh Chauhan, who contributed a valuable 55 off 30 balls.
The pair completely shifted the momentum and guided Shrachi Rarh Tigers to an impressive 165/4 in their allotted 15 overs. Akhil emerged as the most successful bowler for Malda, claiming two wickets, but the batting partnership had already put the Tigers firmly in control.
Sobisco Smashers Malda Fall Short in Chase
Following the DLS adjustment, Sobisco Smashers Malda were set a revised target of 107 runs in nine overs. The chase demanded an explosive start, and although the batters fought bravely, they struggled to keep pace with the required rate.
Abhimanyu Easwaran played a determined innings of 38 from 22 balls, keeping Malda's hopes alive with elegant stroke play. However, regular wickets prevented the team from building the momentum needed for victory.
Sukhmeet Singh starred with the ball for the champions, picking up two crucial wickets, while Raju Halder and Rohit Kumar chipped in with one wicket each. Malda eventually finished on 97/5, handing Shrachi Rarh Tigers a memorable nine-run triumph.
Maiden Trophy and Grand Rewards
The victory marked a landmark moment for Shrachi Rarh Tigers as they celebrated their first Bengal Mens T20 League championship. Captain Shahbaz Ahmed's match-winning performance earned widespread praise and highlighted his ability to deliver on the biggest stage.
The champions walked away with prize money of Rs 50 lakh, while runners-up Sobisco Smashers Malda received Rs 30 lakh after an impressive tournament campaign.
Organised under the Cricket Association of Bengal, the Bengal Mens T20 League continues to grow as one of the state's premier franchise competitions, featuring eight city-based teams across men's and women's tournaments. Season 3 concluded with a fitting finale as Shrachi Rarh Tigers etched their name into the history books with a dominant and resilient championship-winning performance.
