Delhi Premier League T20: South Delhi Superstarz defeat West Delhi Lions by 69 runs, led by captain Ayush Badoni, who excels.
New Delhi, August 25, 2024: On Sunday, in the ongoing Adani Delhi Premier League T20, South Delhi Superstarz defeated West Delhi Lions by 69 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
West Delhi Lions, who were chasing a total of 229, started the innings with Ankit Kumar and Krish Yadav. As they faced the opposition's bowling attack from the first ball, the openers got off to a quick start. Ankit Kumar scored some excellent shots to quicken the pace. It took the West Delhi Lions just 2.5 overs to reach 50/0.
Kuldip Yadav got the first breakthrough for South Delhi Superstarz, dismissing Krish Yadav for 28 runs off 13 balls. Before the powerplay came to a conclusion, Yugal Saini was removed for five runs by Kuldip Yadav, scoring another wicket. After six overs, West Delhi Lions were at 82/2.
Nevertheless, the West Delhi Lions were battling at 88/5 in 7.6 overs when three fast wickets put them on the back foot. Then, for the sixth wicket, Deepak Punia and Aryan Dalal put up a 35-run partnership off 25 balls. Deepak was bowled out by Shubham Dubey for 15 runs, ending his innings. The West Delhi Lions had won the toss and chosen to bowl first earlier in the game. Sarthak Ray and Priyansh Arya began the innings for the South Delhi Superstarz. The two came out firing to start the openers off to the best possible start. Sarthak Ray provided strong assistance to Priyansh Arya as he maintained his excellent form. Nevertheless, Deepak Punia's dismissal of Sarthak Ray for 22 runs off 16 balls was the first real breakthrough for the West Delhi Lions. Three boundaries and one six were hit during his innings.
After the powerplay, South Delhi Superstarz had a 61/1 advantage. The next player to enter the crease was South Delhi Superstarz captain and man-in-form Ayush Badoni. In just 8.1 overs, he and Priyansh combined for 49 runs off of 25 balls, contributing to the total that reached 100/1. Shivank Vashisht got rid of Priyansh Arya for 45 runs off 26 balls shortly before the first time-out. Two sixes and five boundaries marked his innings.
Then, Ayush and Dhruv Singh combined for a fast 40 runs off of 28 balls. In just 24 balls, Ayush scored two boundaries and six sixes to reach his half-century. His innings, however, was cut short when Tishant Pawan Dabla dismissed him for 57 runs off of 28 balls.
The innings then began to pick up speed thanks to some lovely strokes and easy boundaries that were hit by Dhruv Singh and Tejaswi Dahiya. Tejaswi reached his half-century in 21 balls near the conclusion of the innings, with three boundaries and five sixes. Dhruv Singh gave him excellent support, scoring 28 runs. After 57 runs, Tejaswi was removed by Rohit Yadav. With one boundary and six runs in three balls, Vision Panchal scored 11 runs in a flash.
After 20 overs, South Delhi Superstarz reached an enormous target of 228/4. Deepak Punia, Shivank Vashisht, Tishant Pawan Dabla, and Rohit Yadav each claimed one wicket for the West Delhi Lions.
