The Sourav Ganguly ICC Hall of Fame recognition became even more memorable after cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar congratulated his long-time opening partner on receiving one of the sport's highest honours. The former India captain, who celebrated his 54th birthday, was named among the latest inductees into the prestigious ICC Hall of Fame, adding another remarkable milestone to his illustrious cricket career.

Few partnerships in cricket history have been as iconic as the one shared by Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly. Together, they dominated bowling attacks around the world and laid the foundation for countless Indian victories. Their bond extended beyond the field, making Tendulkar's heartfelt message especially meaningful following the Sourav Ganguly ICC Hall of Fame announcement.

Taking to social media platform X, Tendulkar wrote a touching message for his former teammate.

"There aren't too many surprises left after knowing each other since we were 14. This wasn't one either. Congratulations. So happy to see you in the ICC Hall of Fame."

The message reflected not only mutual respect but also decades of friendship that began during their teenage years and continued throughout their international careers.

An emotional Ganguly responded with equal warmth, saying that sharing a place alongside Tendulkar in the Hall of Fame represented the greatest satisfaction of his cricketing journey.

"Thank you champion. To be in the same list as you is the biggest job satisfaction ever," Ganguly replied.

The Sourav Ganguly ICC Hall of Fame honour is a fitting tribute to one of India's most influential cricketers. As a batter, Ganguly scored 11,363 runs in 311 One-Day Internationals, including 22 centuries, while also contributing 132 wickets with his left-arm spin. In Test cricket, he accumulated 7,212 runs in 113 matches, establishing himself as one of India's finest left-handed batters.

Known around the cricketing world as the "God of the Off-side," Ganguly was admired for his elegant stroke play, particularly through the covers. However, his greatest contribution perhaps came as captain during one of Indian cricket's most challenging periods.

After taking over the leadership in 2000 following the match-fixing crisis, Ganguly transformed India's approach with fearless and aggressive cricket. Under his captaincy, India won the 2002 NatWest Trophy, shared the ICC Champions Trophy in the same year, reached the final of the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup, defeated Pakistan in a historic Test series in 2004, and scripted the unforgettable comeback victory against Australia at Eden Gardens in 2001.

The Sourav Ganguly ICC Hall of Fame induction also recognises his contributions beyond playing. Following retirement, Ganguly successfully served as President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India during the Covid-19 pandemic, guiding Indian cricket through one of its most difficult phases.

Today, he continues to contribute to the sport as President of the Cricket Association of Bengal, Director of Cricket for Delhi Capitals in both the IPL and Women's Premier League, and head coach of Pretoria Capitals in South Africa's SA20 competition.

With this honour, Ganguly becomes the 12th Indian overall and the 10th Indian men's cricketer to enter the prestigious ICC Hall of Fame. His name now joins legendary Indian cricketers such as Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, MS Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Diana Edulji and others who have left an unforgettable mark on the game.
