Suryansh Shedge Earns Maiden India Call Up as Nitish Kumar Reddy Ruled Out of T20Is

India's preparations for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England have taken an unexpected turn as promising all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out with an injury. In a significant development, Mumbai's rising star Suryansh Shedge has earned his maiden senior India call-up after a series of outstanding performances in domestic cricket, India A matches and the Indian Premier League.

The selection marks a major milestone in the 23-year-old's career and highlights the selectors' confidence in India's emerging all-round talent.

Nitish Kumar Reddy Suffers Injury Blow

The Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed that Nitish Kumar Reddy will miss both T20I series after experiencing discomfort in his left quadriceps following the third ODI against Afghanistan on June 20.

Subsequent medical examinations recommended a rehabilitation period, forcing the talented all-rounder to withdraw from the squad.

His absence is a significant setback for Team India, especially with Hardik Pandya also unavailable due to an injury sustained during IPL 2026. Nitish was expected to provide balance to the side as one of India's limited seam-bowling all-round options.

The management will now closely monitor his recovery ahead of future international assignments.

Suryansh Shedge Rewards Consistency with India Call Up

Suryansh Shedge's inclusion is the result of months of consistent performances across multiple competitions.

The Mumbai all-rounder recently played an important role in India A's successful tri-series campaign in Sri Lanka, scoring 147 runs in five matches while also contributing with the ball by delivering 23 overs and taking two wickets.

His ability to finish innings aggressively and provide useful medium pace makes him a valuable T20 asset.

The BCCI acknowledged that his all-round performances earned him the opportunity to represent the senior national team.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Success Opened Doors

Before impressing for India A, Shedge was instrumental in Mumbai's victorious Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 campaign.

Batting in the lower middle order, he scored 131 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 251.92, consistently changing the momentum of matches with fearless hitting.

Those performances caught the attention of IPL franchises and selectors alike, eventually earning him a contract worth Rs 30 lakh with Punjab Kings during the IPL 2025 auction.

Strong IPL Performances Build Reputation

Although Suryansh Shedge was first associated with the IPL as a replacement player for Lucknow Super Giants in 2023, his breakthrough came after joining Punjab Kings.

Across two IPL seasons, he has showcased his power-hitting abilities, scoring 165 runs at a strike rate above 163.

His IPL 2026 campaign was particularly impressive, accumulating 158 runs in seven innings at an exceptional strike rate of 175.55, proving his capability to accelerate against world-class bowling attacks.

Big Opportunity on the International Stage

India will begin their white-ball tour with two T20Is against Ireland before traveling to England for a five-match T20I series and a three-match ODI contest.

For Suryansh Shedge, this represents the biggest opportunity of his career. The Mumbai all-rounder now has the chance to translate his domestic success into international performances and establish himself as a long-term option in India's evolving T20 setup.

While Nitish Kumar Reddy focuses on recovery, all eyes will be on Suryansh Shedge as he embarks on a dream journey in the Indian jersey, carrying the hopes of proving that consistent domestic excellence can open the doors to international cricket.
