Towhid Hridoy Named Bangladesh T20I Captain for Zimbabwe Series

Bangladesh Cricket has announced a fresh leadership change ahead of the upcoming Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe T20I series, with Towhid Hridoy set to captain the national side in a three-match contest beginning on July 15 in Bulawayo. The appointment comes after regular skipper Litton Das and several senior players were ruled out due to injury recovery and franchise cricket commitments.

The decision gives Hridoy another opportunity to lead Bangladesh in the shortest format while the team prepares for an important white-ball assignment in Zimbabwe.

Hridoy Gets Another Chance as Captain

Towhid Hridoy will captain Bangladesh for the second time in T20 Internationals after previously leading the side during the home series against Australia when Litton Das was unavailable because of a calf injury.

The young batter impressed with his calm leadership during that series and has once again earned the confidence of the Bangladesh Cricket Board to guide the team in challenging overseas conditions.

With several experienced players unavailable, Hridoy's role will be crucial in leading a relatively fresh-looking squad.

Senior Stars Miss the Series

Bangladesh will travel without some of their biggest names.

Regular captain Litton Das continues his recovery from a calf injury and is expected to regain fitness before the ODI leg of the Zimbabwe tour. Meanwhile, all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz and fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud have been granted No Objection Certificates to participate in the ongoing Lanka Premier League.

The overlapping schedule between international cricket and franchise tournaments has forced Bangladesh to reshuffle their squad for the T20I series.

Experienced Players Return

The selection committee has recalled several experienced campaigners to strengthen the squad.

All-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin, middle-order batter Yasir Ali, and experienced all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain return to the national setup after missing previous assignments.

However, Shamim Hossain has been left out of the squad as Bangladesh looks to balance experience with emerging talent.

The squad also includes promising players such as Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain Emon, Rishad Hossain, Nahid Rana and Abdul Gaffar Saqlain, providing the team with exciting options across all departments.

Bangladesh Looking for Redemption

Bangladesh enters the white-ball leg of the Zimbabwe tour after suffering a disappointing defeat in the one-off Test match in Harare, where the hosts secured a dominant innings-and-85-run victory.

The T20I series now presents an opportunity for Bangladesh to bounce back and regain confidence before focusing on future international assignments.

With a mix of youth and experience, the visitors will aim to produce a much-improved performance in the shortest format.

Series Schedule

The three-match T20I series will be played entirely at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.

  • July 19: 3rd T20I – Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo

Before the T20I series, both teams will also contest a three-match ODI series beginning on July 6.

Bangladesh T20I Squad

The Bangladesh T20I Squad for the Zimbabwe series features:

Towhid Hridoy (Captain), Parvez Hossain Emon (Wicketkeeper), Tanzid Hasan, Saif Hassan, Mosaddek Hossain, Yasir Ali, Nurul Hasan (Wicketkeeper), Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Rishad Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Nahid Rana, Mohammad Saifuddin and Abdul Gaffar Saqlain.

Looking Ahead

The Zimbabwe tour represents an important opportunity for Bangladesh to test its bench strength while giving Towhid Hridoy valuable leadership experience.

Although the absence of Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and other senior players will be felt, the series offers emerging cricketers the chance to cement their places in the national team. With experienced campaigners like Mustafizur Rahman and Mohammad Saifuddin returning alongside promising youngsters, Bangladesh will hope to overcome recent setbacks and begin the T20I series on a winning note.

The performances in Bulawayo could play a significant role in shaping Bangladesh's preparations for upcoming ICC events and future bilateral series.
