Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Misses Century Again After Fastest Ever List A Fifty in Tri Series Final
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continues to redefine fearless batting, but once again the teenage sensation was left just a few runs away from a deserved century. The 15-year-old left-hander produced another breathtaking innings, smashing 94 off only 29 balls in the Tri Nation A Series final against Sri Lanka A at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium before falling six runs short of a historic hundred.
If there was any disappointment, it was only because the cricket world had already begun expecting something extraordinary from the youngster. After creating history with the fastest ever List A fifty in just 11 deliveries, Sooryavanshi looked destined to become the youngest player to score a century in such spectacular fashion.
Another Fearless Masterclass
From the moment he opened his account with a straight boundary, Sooryavanshi looked unstoppable. Every over brought fresh entertainment as the teenager dismantled the Sri Lankan attack with incredible confidence and timing.
He raced to 24 runs from his first five scoring shots before unleashing complete destruction in the fourth over. Boundaries flew through cover, over deep extra cover, behind the wicket and straight down the ground as bowlers struggled to find answers.
His remarkable half-century arrived in only 11 balls, officially becoming the fastest List A fifty in cricket history and eclipsing a record that had stood for more than two decades.
A Century That Slipped Away
With the scoreboard racing and the crowd expecting something even bigger, Sooryavanshi entered the nineties in trademark fashion by launching Sahan Arachchige over extra cover for another huge six.
The magical hundred looked inevitable.
However, attempting yet another attacking stroke, the young opener created room to loft the spinner over mid-off but failed to get enough elevation. The mistimed shot was safely caught by V Viyaskanth, ending one of the most explosive innings seen in List A cricket.
The scoreboard read 94 from just 29 deliveries, featuring 10 fours and eight sixes.
For the second consecutive major innings, Sooryavanshi had fallen agonisingly short of a century.
Playing Without Fear
What makes Vaibhav Sooryavanshi special is not just the number of runs he scores but the fearless manner in which he approaches the game.
There was no attempt to slow down after reaching fifty. There was no desire to protect a personal milestone. Every delivery was treated as an opportunity to attack, regardless of the match situation or the approaching century.
That fearless mindset has rapidly become his biggest strength and explains why he is already regarded as one of Indian cricket's brightest prospects.
A Star Ready for Bigger Challenges
The teenager's latest performance comes shortly after earning his maiden India T20I call-up for the tours of Ireland and England and the Asian Games 2026.
While another century slipped away, the innings carried far greater significance. It showcased a player capable of dominating experienced bowlers, breaking world records and changing matches within a handful of overs.
Six runs denied him another personal milestone, but the cricketing world witnessed something even more valuable—a fearless young batter who refuses to play for records and instead plays to entertain, attack and win.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may have missed another century, but his sensational 94 will be remembered as one of the finest and most destructive knocks ever played in List A cricket.
