Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to Use Separate Dressing Room During India England T20I Series

India's teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is set to make headlines even before stepping onto the field during the upcoming five-match T20I series against England. In a unique arrangement driven by international child safeguarding regulations, the 15-year-old will use a separate dressing room from his senior India teammates throughout the tour.

The decision, announced ahead of the series opener in Durham on July 1, follows mandatory child protection policies implemented by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). While unusual in international cricket, the move reflects the growing emphasis on safeguarding young athletes competing at the highest level.

Why Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Will Use a Separate Dressing Room

According to the ECB's safeguarding guidelines, players under the age of 16 must follow specific protocols designed to ensure their safety and well-being during official events.

Although Sooryavanshi will attend team meetings, tactical discussions and all match-day planning sessions alongside his India teammates, he will use a separate changing area at every venue during the five-match T20I series.

The ECB confirmed that the arrangements are being coordinated with the Indian team's Team Liaison Officer and local County Safeguarding Officers through comprehensive risk assessments.

The policy is part of the ECB's "Safe Hands" safeguarding framework, which remains active throughout the tournament alongside ICC regulations.

Parents to Travel with the Teenage Star

To provide additional support, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's parents will accompany him throughout the United Kingdom tour.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has agreed to fully sponsor their travel and accommodation expenses, allowing them to stay in the same official team hotel. While this is outside the usual protocol for senior international tours, the exception has been made considering the youngster's age.

ECB officials have welcomed the arrangement, stating that the presence of family members provides an extra layer of care and confidence while the player adapts to international cricket.

Historic Debut Beckons

If selected during the England series, Sooryavanshi will achieve a remarkable milestone by becoming India's youngest men's international cricketer, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing record of 16 years and 205 days.

The talented left-handed batter has already impressed at multiple levels, representing Bihar in domestic cricket, the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League and India A in developmental tournaments.

His fearless batting style and maturity beyond his years have made him one of the most exciting young prospects in Indian cricket.

Will the Same Rules Apply in Ireland

India will also play a two-match T20I series against Ireland in Belfast before travelling to England. However, it remains unclear whether similar safeguarding arrangements will be enforced during those matches.

Such protocols are more commonly seen in European football, where several teenage players have been required to use separate changing facilities until reaching the minimum age threshold.

A New Era of Player Welfare

The special arrangements for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi highlight the increasing importance of athlete welfare in modern sport. Rather than being viewed as a restriction, the separate dressing room policy ensures that one of India's brightest young talents receives the protection and support necessary while competing on the international stage.

As cricket fans eagerly await his potential debut, the focus will remain on his remarkable talent and fearless approach with the bat. If he takes the field against England, Sooryavanshi will not only create history but also mark the beginning of what many believe could be a long and successful international career for Indian cricket's newest teenage sensation.
