Womens T20 World Cup Pakistan Opener Gull Feroza Reprimanded by ICC for Code Breach
Pakistan opener Gull Feroza has been officially reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during Pakistan's Group A match against Australia in the ongoing Women's T20 World Cup 2026.
The disciplinary action comes after an emotional moment following her dismissal against the six-time champions, adding to Pakistan's disappointing campaign in the tournament. Along with the official reprimand, the right-handed batter has also received one demerit point on her disciplinary record.
Why Was Gull Feroza Penalised?
According to the ICC, Gull Feroza was found guilty of violating Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to the abuse of cricket equipment, clothing, ground equipment, fixtures or fittings during an international match.
The incident occurred during the second over of Pakistan's innings against Australia. After being dismissed, Feroza reacted in frustration by throwing her bat and batting gloves aggressively while walking back toward the team dugout.
The ICC considered the act a breach of player conduct standards and initiated disciplinary proceedings immediately after the match.
Player Accepts the Charge
Gull Feroza admitted the offence and accepted the punishment proposed by match referee Michell Pereira of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees.
Since the Pakistan batter acknowledged the breach, there was no need for a formal disciplinary hearing.
The charge was brought forward by the match officials, including on-field umpires Sue Redfern and Vrinda Rathi, television umpire Jacquline Williams, and reserve umpire Shathira Jakir Jesy.
Because it is Feroza's first offence within a rolling 24-month period, she has been awarded one demerit point, which will remain on her disciplinary record for the specified period under ICC regulations.
Understanding ICC Level 1 Offences
Level 1 breaches represent the least severe category under the ICC Code of Conduct but still carry disciplinary consequences.
Depending on the seriousness of the offence, penalties may include:
An official reprimand.
A fine of up to 50 percent of the player's match fee.
One or two demerit points.
In Gull Feroza's case, the ICC opted for an official reprimand along with a single demerit point, reflecting that the incident was her first recorded disciplinary offence.
Pakistan's Difficult Tournament Continues
The disciplinary setback comes during a challenging Women's T20 World Cup campaign for Pakistan.
Led by Fatima Sana, the team suffered a heavy 113-run defeat against tournament favourites Australia, extending their winless run in the competition.
Australia dominated both with the bat and ball, leaving Pakistan with little chance of chasing down a formidable target.
The defeat also severely damaged Pakistan's hopes of ending the tournament on a positive note.
Final Opportunity Against Netherlands
Pakistan will now shift their attention to their final Group A fixture against the Netherlands at the County Ground in Bristol.
Although both teams are already out of semifinal contention, the match provides Pakistan with an opportunity to finish their campaign with a victory and restore some confidence.
The team management will also hope players maintain discipline on and off the field as they conclude their World Cup journey.
Focus on Learning and Moving Forward
Cricket is an emotional sport, and moments of frustration are not uncommon. However, international players are expected to uphold the spirit of the game and adhere to the ICC's Code of Conduct at all times.
For Gull Feroza, the reprimand serves as a valuable learning experience early in her international career. With only one demerit point on her record and no suspension imposed, she has the opportunity to move forward positively and focus on improving her performances.
As Pakistan prepares for its final match of the Women's T20 World Cup 2026, the team will be eager to put both the defeat to Australia and the disciplinary incident behind them while aiming to finish the tournament on a winning note.
