Abhishek Nayar Previews India's Plans Ahead of Second Test Against Bangladesh in Kanpur
Kanpur, 26 September 2024: Indian cricket team’s assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar, addressed the media at the Green Park Stadium, offering insights into India's preparations ahead of the second and final Test against Bangladesh, starting tomorrow. India currently leads the series 1-0 after a dominant win in Chennai.
Nayar emphasized that the final decision on team composition would depend on the pitch conditions on the morning of the match. Two pitches have been prepared, and Nayar acknowledged that the team is still unsure which surface they will play on. He mentioned the unpredictable weather, expressing hope that the match day would bring favorable conditions.
Speaking about the possibility of fielding an extra spinner, Nayar hinted at the potential inclusion of either Axar Patel or Kuldeep Yadav but maintained that a decision would be made based on the pitch. He remained tight-lipped when asked if local favorite Kuldeep would feature in the playing XI.
Nayar also addressed the form of KL Rahul, expressing confidence in the batter's ability to bounce back. Rahul has faced a lean patch recently, but Nayar highlighted his strong mental approach and the productive conversations within the team, including with head coach Gautam Gambhir.
With India aiming to clinch another series victory at home, Nayar's statements reflect the team's strategic approach as they adapt to the conditions in Kanpur.
The second Test is set to begin on 27 September 2024.
