Afghanistan secured a historic win in the 1st ODI against South Africa in Sharjah on September 18, 2024. South Africa, batting first, collapsed to 106 all out in 33.3 overs, with Wiaan Mulder’s 52 being the only significant contribution. Fazalhaq Farooqi (4/35) and 17-year-old spinner Allah Ghazanfar (3/20) were the chief destroyers of the South African batting lineup.
In reply, Afghanistan chased down the target in 26 overs, despite early struggles at 60-4. Gulbadin Naib’s unbeaten 34 off 27 balls and Azmatullah Omarzai’s 25* ensured a six-wicket victory for Afghanistan. This was Afghanistan’s first-ever ODI win against South Africa
