Australia completed a resounding 7-wicket victory over Pakistan in the third T20I at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart, wrapping up a dominant 3-0 series triumph. Marcus Stoinis starred with an explosive 27-ball 61*, ensuring Australia chased down the modest target of 118 with ease, and 52 balls to spare.
After opting to bat first, Pakistan struggled against Australia’s disciplined bowling. Despite a promising start from captain Babar Azam (41 off 28) and wicketkeeper Haseebullah Khan (24 off 19), the visitors faltered spectacularly. The middle and lower order failed to contribute, with only Shaheen Afridi's 16 adding some late runs. Pakistan were bundled out for a mere 117 in 18.1 overs.
Aaron Hardie (3/13) and Spencer Johnson (2/20) were exceptional, dismantling the batting lineup with precise bowling.
The chase was never in doubt as Marcus Stoinis unleashed a masterclass of power-hitting. Despite losing opener Matthew Short early, Stoinis and Josh Inglis (27 off 24) stabilized the innings before Stoinis finished in style. His innings featured five fours and five towering sixes, leaving Pakistan’s bowlers helpless.
Tim David added a cameo of 7*, and Australia reached the target in just 11.2 overs. Stoinis’s heroics earned him the Player of the Match award, while Spencer Johnson’s consistent performances throughout the series secured him the Player of the Series title.
Pakistan: 117 all out (18.1 overs; B Azam 41, Haseebullah Khan 24; A Hardie 3-13, S Johnson 2-20)
Australia: 118/3 (11.2 overs; M Stoinis 61*, J Inglis 27; S Afridi 1-31, J Khan 1-17)
Australia won by 7 wickets (sealed the series 3-0).
* Australia recorded their seventh consecutive T20I win against Pakistan, extending a dominant streak that began in 2019.
* Pakistan’s 117 is one of their lowest totals in a bilateral T20I series in Australia.
* Marcus Stoinis now has 330 runs and 21 wickets in T20Is in 2024, marking him as a standout all-rounder among full-member players this year.
While Pakistan celebrated a historic 2-1 win in the ODI series earlier in the tour, their T20I campaign revealed glaring weaknesses. Poor batting, lackluster bowling, and insufficient plans have left the team searching for answers as they continue to seek their first T20I victory on Australian soil.
