England secured a crucial 46-run victory (DLS method) over Australia in the third ODI at Chester-le-Street, keeping their hopes alive in the five-match series. Australia, batting first, posted a competitive 304/7, with notable contributions from Steve Smith (60) and Alex Carey (77*). England’s Jofra Archer was impressive with two wickets, while others chipped in to contain Australia.
In reply, England faced early pressure, losing two wickets for just 11 runs, courtesy of Mitchell Starc. However, a brilliant partnership between Harry Brook (110* off 94) and Will Jacks (84 off 82) rescued England. Brook's maiden ODI century proved pivotal as England reached 254/4 when rain interrupted play, putting them ahead of the DLS par score.
This victory helped England reduce the series deficit to 2-1 and ended Australia's 14-match ODI winning streak.
