Gautam Gambhir, Head Coach, Indian Cricket Team addressed a press conference at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai ahead of the third IDFC First Bank Test against New Zealand.
India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir discussed the Indian cricket team's strategies following a challenging home series loss to New Zealand. This defeat marked the first time in over a decade that India lost a Test series on home soil, underscoring the impact of New Zealand's resilient play and exposing vulnerabilities in the Indian squad. Gambhir emphasized a "high risk, high reward" approach, explaining that the team would prioritize aggressive cricket in Tests, even if it sometimes leads to low scores. He noted that this strategy aims to encourage Indian players to play naturally and take calculated risks, potentially leading to larger scores if executed successfully
Gambhir also addressed the criticisms surrounding India’s batting line-up, which has struggled under pressure. He pointed out that it isn’t just the batters but the entire team that bears responsibility for recent setbacks, hinting that both tactical adjustments and individual accountability will be vital moving forward. Furthermore, he highlighted India’s upcoming matches, noting that while the New Zealand series was challenging, the team is focused on each match as it comes, with an eye on future series and the next ICC World Test Championship
