Bangladesh Crush Pakistan in 1st T20I: Bowlers and Emon Shine Bright
Dominant Start for Bangladesh in the T20I Series
Bangladesh vs Pakistan is always a thrilling contest, and the opening T20I of the 2025 series lived up to that billing — at least for the home side. On July 20, at the iconic Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, Bangladesh dominated Pakistan from start to finish, sealing a 7-wicket victory with 27 balls to spare.
While this game was expected to be a close one, Pakistan faltered badly with the bat, crumbling for just 110 in under 20 overs. In contrast, Bangladesh chased down the total with clinical precision, thanks to a composed and attacking unbeaten half-century from Parvez Hossain Emon.
Bangladesh's Bowlers Set the Tone
The day belonged to Bangladesh’s bowlers, who were ruthless from the first over. Captain Litton Das won the toss and chose to bowl first — a decision that paid immediate dividends. Taskin Ahmed led the charge with an impressive 3/22, using variations in pace to keep the batters guessing. Alongside him, the ever-reliable Mustafizur Rahman was virtually unplayable, returning miserly figures of 2/6 in four overs.
The Pakistani top-order never found rhythm. Only Fakhar Zaman showed some resistance, scoring 44 off 34 before a mix-up led to his unfortunate run-out. With only two players from the top seven entering double digits, Pakistan’s innings never really got going.
Pakistan’s Batting Collapse and Missed Opportunities
What made the collapse more frustrating for Pakistan was the avoidable nature of many dismissals. There were not one, but two run-outs, and a series of soft dismissals as batters failed to adapt to a slow Mirpur pitch.
Post-match, Pakistan skipper Salman Agha admitted his team lacked the runs to challenge Bangladesh. He acknowledged that adapting to Bangladesh's sluggish wickets is crucial, and his side would need to regroup ahead of the second match.
Parvez Hossain Emon Steals the Spotlight
If the bowlers set the platform, Parvez Hossain Emon built the house. After Bangladesh lost both openers early — Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das dismissed cheaply by debutant Salman Mirza — it was Emon and Tawhid Hridoy who steadied the innings.
The pair stitched together a 73-run stand that not only rescued Bangladesh from a potential scare but turned the tide decisively. Emon's unbeaten 56 came at a strike rate close to 150, peppered with classy boundaries and a confident six that brought up his half-century.
His ability to absorb pressure early and counterattack later made the difference. By the time he wrapped up the chase in the 16th over, there was no doubt about his Player of the Match award.
Fielding and Execution: Bangladesh Outclasses Pakistan
Bangladesh also outshone Pakistan in the field. They were sharper, quicker, and held onto chances. In contrast, Mohammad Haris had a forgettable day behind the stumps for Pakistan, dropping multiple chances including two sitters — one of which could have sent Emon back early.
While debutant Salman Mirza impressed with two early wickets, the rest of the Pakistani bowling attack lacked consistency and penetration. Without scoreboard pressure, they were merely going through the motions.
Bangladesh vs Pakistan: A Growing Rivalry
Though not as historically intense as other rivalries, Bangladesh vs Pakistan matches in recent years have gained an edge. Bangladesh has developed a strong home record and has defeated Pakistan in several key games across formats. With this win, Bangladesh has taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series and extended their winning momentum from their previous series.
The victory also reflects Bangladesh’s growing depth in T20 cricket. Players like Parvez Hossain Emon and Tawhid Hridoy are stepping up consistently, adding balance to a side no longer reliant on just a few stars.
Looking Ahead to the Second T20I
With the second T20I scheduled for July 22, 2025, both teams have little time to reflect. Pakistan will need to address their batting flaws, perhaps reshuffling their top order or introducing fresh faces. Bangladesh, meanwhile, will aim to wrap up the series early with another strong performance.
A win in the next match would not only seal the series for Bangladesh but also send a strong message ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026. The confidence in the camp is high, and with bowlers and young batters clicking, the Tigers seem ready for more.
