Morne Morkel, Bowling Coach, Indian Cricket Team, Addresses Media After Day 4 of the Second Test Against Bangladesh at Green Park Stadium
Kanpur, September 30, 2024 — Indian cricket team’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, addressed the media at a press conference after the conclusion of Day 4 of the second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park Stadium. Morkel expressed his satisfaction with the Indian bowling performance, reflecting on the challenges the pitch offered and the strategies employed by the bowlers.
With India in a commanding position, Morkel praised the Indian pace attack for their adaptability. "The pitch was a bit slow, especially as the game progressed, but the bowlers stuck to their plans. It’s all about patience and precision on a surface like this, and our bowlers were outstanding," said Morkel.
India's fast bowlers have been instrumental in applying pressure on the Bangladeshi batting lineup throughout the match. Morkel highlighted how Siraj's discipline.
He also spoke about India's spinners, particularly Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, who have shared the burden of taking wickets on the spin-friendly Kanpur pitch. "Ashwin and Jadeja were brilliant. They used the conditions well, and their variations kept the opposition batters on their toes. Jadeja’s accuracy, coupled with Ashwin’s guile, gave us breakthroughs when we needed them the most."
Looking ahead to the final day, Morkel emphasized the importance of remaining patient and focused. "We’re in a strong position, but we know how tricky it can get on Day 5. The team needs to stay calm, execute the basics, and take advantage of the pressure that’s already on Bangladesh," he said.
India has set a formidable target for Bangladesh, and Morkel is confident the bowlers can seal the victory. However, he cautioned against complacency. "It’s Test cricket, and anything can happen. But with the depth and talent we have in our bowling unit, I’m confident we can wrap things up early tomorrow."
Morkel, who joined the Indian coaching staff earlier this year, concluded by praising the young bowlers in the squad, pointing out their eagerness to learn and improve. "It’s a privilege to work with such a skilled group. The youngsters are always hungry to learn, and they’ve shown tremendous growth over the last few months."
As India gears up for an exciting final day, Morkel's insights reflect the team's confidence and preparedness to claim a series victory over Bangladesh.
