Team India under Captaincy of Kapil Dev toured Sri Lanka to play 3 ODIs. The Host Sri Lanka was captained by Duleep Mendis. This series ended as draw 1-1. Dilip Vengsarkar played an Anchor role and crosses 50+ runs in all 3 ODIs. He was handed the man-of-the series award. He scored 194 runs with the average of 64.66. Current Indian team coach Ravi Shastri scored 137 runs as an Opener with the average of 45.66

After 8 Years, India toured Sri Lanka under the captaincy of Mohammad Azharuddin. World Cup winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga captained Sri Lanka. Under his captaincy, Legend Muttiah Muralidaran makes his ODI debut in the 2nd ODI of this tour. India won the 1st ODI by a margin of 1 Run and lost the rest of the matches. As a result, Sri Lanka won the series 2-1. India’s Mohammad Azharuddin top-scored with 200 runs with a average of 66.66 but Manoj Prabhakar was concluded as Man of the series for scoring 142 Runs in a average of 47.33 and picks 7 wickets. Debutant Muralidaran picks 2 wickets in an economy of 3.93

In this series, 24 years old Sachin Tendulkar lead team India in ODIs. Arjuna Ranatunga remains captain for Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka won all 3 matches and White washed India. Left hander Sanath Jayasuriya was the most notable player during the tournament. He was selected as player of the series in both the Test and ODI series. He was the highest scoring batsman during the Test series, and also took the highest number of 5 wickets for Sri Lanka in the ODI series. After the long gap of 9 years, India toured Sri Lanka to play 7 ODIs under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid and Sri Lanka by Mahela Jayawardene. Only one game was played, but ended as no result, and then the tour was cancelled officially.

A young Indian team under the Captaincy of MS Dhoni toured Sri Lanka to play 5 Match ODI series. Virat Kohli made his debut in ODI cricket. In absence of injured Sehwag, He opens the bat with Gambhir. He played as an opener throughout the series and scored 159 runs at the average of 31.80. He scored his maiden FIFTY in 4th ODI. Tamil Nadu cricketer S Badrinath also debuted in this series but he scored just 39 runs in 3 Matches. Mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis have upper hands against Indian Batsman and picks 13 wickets. India won the series 3-2. This was their First series Victory in Sri Lanka. Captain MS Dhoni was awarded as Man of the series. He scored 193 Runs at the average of 38.60 with 2 fifties and He becomes the first Indian captain to win series in Sri Lanka.

After winning the series last year in 2008, Team India toured Sri Lanka to play limited overs cricket with 5 ODIs and 1 T20I. MS Dhoni and Mahela Jayawardene captained their teams. This time India announced a power packed team including Sachin Tendulkar, Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh in the side. Ravindra Jadeja earns maiden call up to the national squad. Virat Kohli was dropped. L Balaji was called up to ODI cricket after 4 Years. Power packed Indian team cross the team total of 300+ runs 3 times in 5 matches. India managed to win ODI series 4-1 this time. Yuvraj was adjudged as Man of the series for scoring 284 runs with an average of 56.80. After the ODI Victory India play only T20I and won the match by 3 Wickets. Tillakaratne Dilshan captained Sri Lankan side. Jadeja made his T20I debut and MS Dhoni become the First Indian captain to win T20I series in Sri Lanka.

On 2012, India toured Sri Lanka to play 5 ODIs and 1 T20I. Virat Kohli, who was dropped last time when India toured Sri Lanka, was announced as Vice Captain. India won the 3rd Consecutive Bilateral ODI series in Sri Lanka. Virat Kohli was adjudged as Man of the series for scoring 296 Runs with average of 74.00. It was the third-highest for an Indian batsman in a bilateral ODI series against Sri Lanka. The highest run scorer is MS Dhoni‘s 346 runs in 2005. Virat Kohli continued to be imperious as India completed a successful limited-overs campaign in Sri Lanka with a comfortable win in the only T20 international on the tour. Picking the Gambhir’s wicket in the first over, Sri Lankan Pacer Shaminda Eranga made a unique achievement by picked up a wicket in the first over of his debuts in Tests, ODIs and T20 internationals.

On 2017, Virat Kohli led Indian team was scheduled to tour Sri Lanka to play 5 ODIs and a T20I. Upul Tharanga to lead Sri Lankan limited overs side. Vishwa Fernando made his ODI debut and Lasith Malinga played his 200th ODI in 1st ODI of the series. In 2nd ODI, Sri Lanka played their 800th ODI match and Akila Dananjaya (SL) took his first five-wicket haul in ODIs. In 3rd ODI, Jasprit Bumrah took his first five-wicket haul in ODIs. In 4th ODI, Dilshan Munaweera, Malinda Pushpakumara and Shardul Thakur all made their ODI debuts for respective teams and MS Dhoni played in his 300th ODI and broke the record for most unbeaten innings in ODIs.
Lasith Malinga took his 300th wicket in ODIs and become 4th Sri Lankan to reach this milestone. In 5th ODI, MS Dhoni became the first wicket-keeper to effect 100 stumpings in ODIs and Bhuvneshwar Kumar took his first five-wicket haul in ODIs. For Maintaining Slow over rate Captain Upul Tharanga was suspended for the third and fourth ODIs. Chamara Kapugedera captained the side for the third ODI, but sustained a back injury and was ruled of the remaining matches. Lasith Malinga was given the captaincy for the fourth ODI. India won the ODI series 5–0 and was the first time Sri Lanka had suffered a whitewash at home in ODIs. Shikhar Dhawan was named as Man of the series in ODIs and Virat Kohli for T20I.
