Oman' vs UAE | Men's T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup | Match 3

In a nail-biting contest at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) edged past Oman by 4 wickets in the third match of Group B in the ACC Men's T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024. A heroic unbeaten 44 from Syed Haider Shah steered UAE to victory with just five balls to spare.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, UAE restricted Oman to 150/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Oman's captain, Jatinder Singh, top-scored with a well-made 54 off 40 balls, showcasing aggressive intent with 7 boundaries and 1 six. However, the UAE bowlers kept picking up wickets at crucial junctures, with Muhammad Farooq (3/21) and Jawadullah (2/23) leading the charge.

Oman’s innings had a promising start, but after the fall of Aamir Kaleem (32) at the last ball of the 10th over, their momentum slowed. Jatinder Singh’s dismissal at 96/2 in the 12th over by Nilansh Keswani further dented Oman's chances of putting up a more substantial total. A lower-order collapse saw Oman lose wickets in quick succession, with no other batsman making significant contributions.

In response, UAE’s chase got off to a rocky start, losing Mayank Rajesh Kumar (16) early. However, Tanish Suri (33 off 26) provided some stability before Aamir Kaleem (2/18) struck twice, leaving UAE reeling at 66/4 in the 9th over.

It was Syed Haider Shah’s composed 44 off 28 balls, including 3 sixes and 2 fours, that anchored the UAE innings. Supported by valuable cameos from captain Basil Hameed (19) and Nilansh Keswani (19), Shah guided UAE through a tense middle phase, ensuring they stayed in the hunt.

With 10 runs required off the final over, Shah held his nerve, striking a boundary to bring UAE within touching distance. Sanchit Sharma sealed the win with a single off the first ball of the 20th over, handing UAE a crucial victory.

For his match-winning knock, Syed Haider Shah was rightfully named Player of the Match.
