India secured a comprehensive six-wicket victory over the Prime Minister’s XI in their two-day warm-up match at the Manuka Oval, Canberra. Despite rain shortening the game to 46 overs, both teams made the most of the conditions, with standout performances from Sam Konstas for the PM XI and Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar for India. The match provided India with valuable preparation ahead of their much-anticipated series in Australia.
Sam Konstas was the star of the PM XI innings, crafting a sublime century to anchor his side to a total of 240 runs. However, India’s well-rounded bowling attack and their batting depth proved decisive as they comfortably chased down the target with six wickets in hand.
Konstas Stands Tall Amid PM XI Collapse
After being put in to bat, the Prime Minister’s XI struggled to build partnerships, losing wickets at regular intervals. Indian bowlers maintained tight control, with Harshit Rana leading the charge with an impressive 4/44. Akash Deep and Ravindra Jadeja contributed with two wickets each, while Washington Sundar and Prasidh Krishna added to the hosts’ woes with timely breakthroughs.
Sam Konstas was the lone warrior for the PM XI, smashing a brilliant 107 off 97 balls. Displaying an array of strokes, Konstas struck 14 boundaries and a six, single-handedly steering his side to a respectable total. Jack Clayton chipped in with 40 off 52, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to capitalize.
Hanno Jacobs showed resilience with a late 61 off 60 deliveries, including two sixes, but it wasn’t enough to lift the team past 250 as the Indian bowlers wrapped up the innings in 43.2 overs.
India’s Chase: Gill and Sundar Take Charge
India’s chase began steadily, with Yashasvi Jaiswal looking in sublime touch. The young opener struck nine boundaries in his 45 off 59 balls, setting a solid platform. However, Charlie Anderson dismissed him and captain Rohit Sharma, who fell for just 3, in quick succession.
Shubman Gill took over the reins, crafting a measured 50 off 62 balls. His timing and placement were impeccable, and he anchored the innings during the crucial middle overs. Nitish Reddy’s quickfire 42 off 32 balls added momentum, as he smashed five boundaries and a six to push India closer to the target.
Washington Sundar delivered the finishing touches with a brilliant unbeaten 42 off 36 balls. His innings, studded with boundaries, ensured India crossed the finish line with ease. Ravindra Jadeja contributed 27 before falling to Matt Renshaw’s sharp return catch.
The Indian batting lineup displayed depth and composure, reaching 257/5 in 46 overs and securing the victory by six wickets.
