Ravichandran Ashwin addressed a press conference at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, Chennai following the first Test between Indai and Bangladesh.
In the 1st Test between India and Bangladesh, played in Chennai, Ravichandran Ashwin delivered a standout all-round performance to guide India to a dominant 280-run victory. Ashwin first rescued India with a crucial century in their first innings, scoring 113 and helping India recover from 144/6 to post 376. His partnership with Ravindra Jadeja (199 runs for the seventh wicket) was key to India setting up a challenging total.
In Bangladesh's second innings, Ashwin excelled with the ball, taking six wickets for 88 runs, leading to their collapse on the fourth day. This haul brought Ashwin his 37th five-wicket haul in Tests, putting him in second place for most five-wicket hauls, tied with Shane Warne, and behind only Muthiah Muralidaran. His wicket tally also surpassed 750 in international cricket, making him the fourth spinner to achieve this milestone.
Bangladesh, chasing 515, were bowled out for 234 despite a valiant 82 from Najmul Hossain Shanto. Ashwin’s quick breakthroughs on Day 4, including dismissing Shakib Al Hasan early in the morning session, sealed the match. Jadeja also chipped in with three wickets to complement Ashwin's effort
