Washington Sundar delivered an outstanding bowling performance on Day 1 of the second IDFC First Bank Test against New Zealand in Pune. Sundar's remarkable haul of seven wickets played a crucial role in restricting New Zealand to 259 runs. Among his notable dismissals were those of Rachin Ravindra, who was batting confidently, and Daryl Mitchell, both key wickets in New Zealand's lineup. Sundar's control and consistency in line and length were evident, as he capitalized on the spin-friendly conditions.
At the post-match press conference held at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Sundar highlighted the importance of sticking to accurate lines and maintaining discipline in his bowling. He acknowledged the pivotal moment of dismissing Rachin Ravindra, a wicket that shifted momentum in India's favor. Sundar's efforts helped India make early inroads, although New Zealand's Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra provided some resistance with scores of 76 and 65 respectively.
By the end of the day's play, India had begun their innings cautiously, reaching 16/1 with Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal at the crease after Tim Southee dismissed Rohit Sharma early on. India trails New Zealand by 243 runs heading into Day 2
