India is in control owing to Ashwin's bowling and the opening partnership of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

West Indies were reduced to a meager 150 in 64.3 overs as a result Ashwin's five wickets for 60 runs in 24.3 overs, with assist in Ravindra Jadeja's three wickets for 26 runs.

At the top of the order, captain Rohit Sharma (batting on 30) and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal (batting on 40) shared an unbroken stand of 80 runs to bring the first innings deficit to 70 runs going into the second day.
